Has Anyone Seen Shadow Lately?

I had an impromptu trip to the Hilton Head resort yesterday... My son was playing in a baseball tournament not that far from there and I decided to make good use of my time when his team wasn't playing.

Anyhow, I mentioned this thread to a couple of cast members. They are not sure what to make of all the speculation about Shadow... So, I asked for a refresher on Shadow's story to share.

Shadow has been on Longview Island since before the resort was built -- she just kind of came with the resort. Legend has it that she was kind of "adopted" by the construction workers and then just stayed on after the resort opened. She has always been there for personal appearances. For the first 3 or 4 years, Chef Gordon was the one who accompanied her. When B'lou came to the resort, he took over the task, but she has never been B'lou's (or anyone else's) personal pet. She's just "always" been a part of the resort and always will be.

Shadow was fine in late May. We saw him several times the week we were there. I didn't pay much attention, but my impression was that he was not old.

We returned from HHI yesterday and saw Shadow twice during the week.

On Sunday, Shadow and B'lou were outside the lobby doors at the lodge greeting people as they checked in.

Thursday, they were at the Shadow's Tales program and posed for photos afterward. There was a Q&A after and B'lou said Shadow spends a lot of time in the offices under the Mercantile where she likes to sleep under the desks, has her food, water and toys there. Also, that she's "8 years old, or maybe 12", so who knows.

Here are a couple of pictures taken on 6/15.

DS was last in line for photos and Shadow just wanted to be done! I told him to let her be and just rub her belly. It was so hot!

That was definitely not the golden I saw in late May. So, the golden I saw may be Shadow's sibling? No one told me that the golden I saw was Shadow, we all just assumed it was since it was the only golden we saw during our trip.

I saw Shadow on Sunday June 18th 2006. It was the same dog I've seen over the last 4 years and she is a girl. She was at her dog house greeting guest when they checked in. When I saw her, I said " hi Shadow " and she started wagging her tail like she had known me her whole life. I spent alot of time with her because I miss my Golden who died last September. He was 14. She seemed ok, she is an old dog and they do slow down, she has lost weight which is not a good sign for an old dog. Hopefully she'll be around for a few more years.

We saw Shadow during "Shadow's Tales" during our stay from 5/28 - 6/2. I didn't hear how old Shadow was but she was not a young dog. B'lou did mention Shadow had been put on a strict diet and had lost a lot of weight.

that is the story to keep up the "legend" side of the story. B'lou will not break character for either himself or shadow.

I think B'lou is "Bear" or produces it or something. The company that makes the show is called "Shadow productions" and it's logo is a golden. co-winky-dink? I don't think so.

We saw Shadow for the first time when we checked in on Sunday June 18 (Father's Day). Shadow and Blue were sitting outside the main check in just relaxing and telling stories. Shadow looked great!

Well, I did run into B'lou and told him about this thread.

While he was grateful for the attention, he said that he sure would like to know where all the money is if he's the producer of one of the top children's TV shows!

So, while some may think the reference to shadow and the golden retriever are too much of a coincidence to ignore, I'm afraid that it's someone other than HH's B'lou Crabbe who is responsible for "Bear in the Big Blue House"

We were at HH at the end of June and we had the greatest time. To me, one of the best parts of it was Shadow and B'Lou. We got to see Shadow four different times. B'Lou told us that she would be up at the check-in area on Sunday afternoon to say hello to the new people. And she was! She was so pretty and a very friendly dog. I saw her walking down the sidewalk another time. We went to hear B'Lou's Shadow tales another time (I think Thursday) and she was there along with photo opportunities with the kids and families. The last time we saw her was great. My ds, dh and I were at the check-in and Shadow came out of the office at the same time we started going back to our lodge. We walked all the way back to the pool with her. I understand other people have never seen her and yet we got to see her 4 times. B'Lou told us that Shadow has been there from the very beginning with Mr. Edmunds and that she was "8, maybe 12 years old." We were able to trade for a special Shadow pin, too.

I totally fell in love with Shadow (I'm a dog lover anyway) and have lots of pictures. I can't wait to go back.

We saw Shadow this past week on Member's Day (Wednesday). B'Lou brought her to the pool area and she was a big hit with everyone gathered there. We've seen Shadow almost every trip since the resort opened and she has definitely aged gracefully.

B'Lou is always a most gracious host for all of the activities he is responsible for at the resort. We enjoyed his magic show, Shadow's Tales, balloon artistry at the BarB'Que and got to talk with him at the Beach House while he entertained for the Shrimp Boil.

His full name is Bartholomew Louis Crabbe - and the "B'Lou" was a nickname given in gradeschool. Quite the storyteller, musician and balloon artist- among other talents!

We were there from 7/16-7/20 and I saw Shadow in the rental barn. She walked by with a tennis ball in her mouth.

B'Lou is a really nice man. At the pool party last week after the barbeque he made a balloon parrot for my 4yr old daughter that he stuck on her bathing suit strap to make it sit on her shoulder. She loved it!
