Has anyone returned an XBOX LIVE card to Walmart?

DS and SS got a Kinect for Christmas. Their LIVE subscriptions had lapsed so we got online and found the family gold membership and decided to do that. We kept getting error messages so we tried the CS line. Apparently the day of 12/26 was an overwhelming one and we never could get it to work, even after calling and staying on hold for the better part of an hour to talk to someone. The next day DH went and bought a gold level subscription card at Walmart, thinking he could do it that way and then upgrade. I was afraid that it wouldn't offer an upgrade and we would be stuck buying 3 more $60 cards so all the kids could have an account. We tried online one last time and managed to get it all to work and bought our gold family account online so that's all good. But now I have this $60 gold LIVE card that we don't need. We didn't scratch off the little box for the code and I have the receipt. Will they take it back or am I going to have to try eBay or Craig's List for this stupid thing?

I highly doubt they will as it would be treated like an Itunes or Gift card. You may want to see if there are sites in which you could sell it or trade it on.

Have you looked to see if you can use the card with an upgrade. If you can, just hang onto it and use it when you need to renew. Or ask the boys if they have any friends with an Xbox live subscription, if they do, ask to talk to the parents to see if they'd like to buy the card.

I was kind of afraid of that. I may put it up for sale on our bulletin board at work. Perhaps someone bought an XBOX and would love a LIVE subscription LOL

If you would have activated the gold card and then purchased the family membership they would have given you $60 off. The rules and info is posted on Xbox.com

My MIL was told (at Walmart) that if the code was not revealed (scratched off) then it was returnable. She specifically asked this because I was not for sure if my DH would want this or not. I think it is worth a try to return it to them and explain your situation.

By the way, how much is the family membership? I didn't realize until he joined that each player/account had to have it's own Live code. I personally think this is a total ripoff. We can go online with our PS3 for free and now each person is $60. Ugh!:headache:

Pair that with the fact that our week old unit is freezing up (Yeah Microsoft) and I am totally regretting this purchase. :sad2:

I had hoped after 5 years on the market the xbox 360 would have improved their failure rate. Sorry for the vent.:rolleyes1

Way back when, our boys got an xbox 360 and shared an account. So after yrs of being one account, no one really wanted their own account to start over as far as reputation, points earned, status in games, etc.
Last yr DS14 got his own account so he started some games over, but he still plays on the joint account.
Its funny because most people know its shared account, they have friends all over the world and yet the friends can mostly tell which one is playing.

Thanks goodness 3 boys, born within 3 yrs, learned how to share at a very early age.

I did not know a Family Account existed. That may be a good gift for next Christmas.

As far as the card you have, I would try to return it and if not possible then I would save it for when you need to renew the current membership.
