Has anyone relocated to be closer to the mouse?

I am originally from Miami and moved to Texas to be with my hubby who already had a house here.

However, I am SO HOMESICK (after 3 years) that we decided to move back, just not to Miami. Hubby has agreed to the Orlando area.

Any thoughts from families that have done this would be appreciated. Hopefully they are happy thoughts!

Thanks!

Honestly this was always my goal & we did it :cool1: bought the house & moved from NY Sept 2008...glad you convinced DH we are very happy and MY DH said WEe should have done this sooner :sad2: (I worked on it for 10 yrs NOW he says that !) BUT let me caution you Florida right now has one of the highest unemployment rate. I have been actively searching since lay off Aug 2009.....get jobs and c'mon back !! :dance3:

Not yet :lmao:

Seriously though, DH is a pilot and we can live where we want. The only problem we have right now is that the housing market is SO bad we'd have to pay a ton of money at closing to get out of our house and we just can't do that right now. Maybe in a few years we can though!

DH went to college in Daytona and loved it down there and both have family there and love is down there and would love to relocate down there some time soon so hopefully some day we can!

Houses are so cheap in Orlando! It's really incredible what you can get. The goal is to be there next summer, after I finish graduate school. I really miss FLorida. There really is no place like home! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

We had to move because of a job and we had wanted to move to Florida so we finally did. We are in the Kissimmee are because I wanted to stay local to WDW which is really good because I just got hired to work for the mouse!!!! ::MickeyMo

But as a PP has stated, depending on the job field, jobs are difficult to find. My husband was very lucky to find a job as quick as he did, about 4 months. houses are relatively cheap right now. In this area, you can find houses for sale 40-50% off the "original" sale prices.

My husband and I would LOVE to do this, but like so many people are saying the job market isn't as great as it has been in the past. And the housing market in our area is really, really bad right now.. It's actually really scary how bad the housing market is right now. So many people we know are upside down with their houses right now. Just not a good situation to be in. We're hoping that things get better so we can actually sell our house and move closer to the Mouse. :)

If I could, I would do it in a heart beat!! I think about it everyday! I would LOOOOVE to be a photographer at Disney World.

I recently moved OUT of the Orlando area due to a job. I didn't move terribly far, only about 1.5 hours (maybe even a little less) away, to the Sarasota area. But, I have to say, I will probably move back within the next year or two. It's not just about Disney -(and people thinking of relocating need to know that Orlando is a big city, with big city pluses and minuses), it's that I'm far more comfortable in Orlando. I went to law school there, I lived there for 6 years, I love everything about it, it just feels like "home" to me. I've tried living in other places, and it's not the same. Heck, I even miss the traffic on I-4 these days. ;)

Me too!! I've even told my DH that I want to move to Florida, but he hates the heat.....so it'll never happen. But I keep reminding him of air conditioning and swimming pools!! lol

Almost a year ago we thought DH would loose his job and we would have to move out of state to find a new job. I jokingly, yet honestly suggested Florida/Orlando but we ended up not having to move (Praise God!). Honestly though, I don't think we ever would have done it. For one, employment is TERRIBLE in Florida right now, and the public schools are TERRIBLE too. From the people we know down there they basically say you have to put your kids in private school.

We live about 35 minutes away and have actually been considering moving closer to that area sometime in the next couple of years. The crime rate around here (near UCF) has not been that great lately so that's part of the reason too, but we've thought it would be nicer to live closer to theme parks with the animals we have (I hate leaving our dogs alone too long).

If you go to www.trulia.com you can search with a "map view" of houses in the area, which is very, very nice. I have been looking around and there's been a few decent prices around the area of Kissimmee lately. If you go just a little south-east of Disney (near 417 and Kissimmee) you'll see a boat load of neighborhoods.

Good luck on whatever you decide!
