Has anyone recently upgraded AP for DVC discount?

BUMP

Has any DVCer upgraded their current AP to PAP recently? What were you told? Was it a hassle? Did you have to pay anything? Get money back? Even exchange?

We upgraded about 4 weeks ago.

I went to guest services in Epcot and the cast member knew about the standard AP to DVC PAP upgrade process. Its an even exchange, they no longer give you any cash back.

The only hassle was that she did not know how to voucher the cash difference in the system - I guess they need to account for the price difference without giving you cash back.

All in all it took about 5 minutes.

We then uses the PAP later that week to go to Disney Quest.

We purchased 10 day MYW no-exp park hoppers with plus visits (phew) back in February. After I found out about the DVC AP discount, we booked another trip and decided to upgrade to the AP.

Well, we got the plus on the MYW thinking we'd save the plusses for a future trip, since our kids are pretty little and the regular parks would be plenty for them to handle. So we didn't want the PAP, since we wouldn't use the plus visits.

The CM at DTD was happy to do the upgrade for us, but was NOT going to give us the refund back. It was more than $200! I refused to hear that answer -- at the very least, if they wouldn't refund the $$$ I wanted that same value in non-expiring park tickets! I asked her to get a supervisor, and she went to speak to somebody on the phone. When she returned, she processed a refund to my credit card for $210. She said that the supervisor told her to do it, but only because my MYW tickets had never been used (they were still stuck on the paper they came on in the mail.) Whatever, I was just happy to have AP's and to have some extra spending money to play with!

No, Downtown Disney Guest Services is not behind the Christmas Store. It is behind the Mickey Sports Store (can't remember the exact name). It is across the bathrooms - which are located between the Sports store and Once Upon a Toy. Its a small office...but if you walk toward the bathrooms between the Sports Store and Once Upon a Toy, you're sure to see it.

FYI Guest Relations moved and is now near/behind the Ghiardelli shop (unless they move again, as renovations are ongoing at DTD)

We have 2 APs that we purchased in November 2004. We will be going back to WDW in June 2005 and were thinking of upgrading to PAPs since we now get a DVC discount and may want to try the water parks. I understand we will be able to exchange for PAPs but does the expiration date change or will the upgraded passes still expire in November? Annmarie

The expiration date will remain the same.

Saturday May 28th DH and I upgraded our APs to PAPs inside the MK at Guest Relations. The CM was confused at first, asked for assistance, and we got back $5 and some change back per pass. I think we made his night because he couldn't believe he was giving us money back.

I'm a little confused as some people appear to get some money back (minimal) but when I upgraded my tickets in May (I bought the AP in October, activiated in December), it was an even swap. I wonder if it is because of where the tickets were bought (I purchased from the Disney Store). Not complaining as it didn't cost me anything, just curious why the different treatment. Expiration date stayed the same.

I'm puzzled too, but not complaining!! :teeth:

I did the same as you. I bought my vouchers at the Disney Store (Concord Mall in Wilmington, DE) in March 2004 the day before the price increase. We activated them in November 2004, and then upgraded in May 2005 with the same November 2005 expiration.

When the CMs were helping us, they apparently clicked on some sort of PAP - DVC code in their computers. It gave us two new passes and money back. :confused3 I was hoping just for an even exchange, but Disney got that money back very quickly. :earboy2:

I'm really perplexed why some DVCers with APs seem to be getting charge to upgrade theirs...
