Has anyone recently stayed at Anaheim Desert Inn & Suites OR Carousel Inn & Suites?

Hi, everyone. I'm pretty new to the DISboards site, but you've come HIGHLY recommended by family who have been members for years. I'm hoping someone out there can help me with choosing a non-Disney hotel for our upcoming trip. I haven't been to DL in 20 years, so I'm totally unfamiliar with the area.

We're planning on visiting the last week of August for 3 nights/4 days. My husband and I are traveling with our 4 yr. old twins and my husband's parents, so we need sleeping arrangements for 4 adults and 2 children.

We're trying to make this trip on a decent budget and so don't want to spring for 2 rooms at a Disney hotel which would run us over $300 a night (for both rooms) (I've checked).

We'd also like to be able to walk into the parks, so have been looking at motels across the street. So far, the best deals I could find are 2 BR/2 BA suites at the Anaheim Desert Inn & Suites or at the Carousel Inn & Suites. Both places have recently been remodeled (according to their reservations people). Desert Inn was renovated 1-1/2 yrs. ago, Carousel last Dec.

We're not looking for (or expecting) anything fancy, I just want to make sure we don't get anything gross. Clean, convenient, and comfortable is what we want.

Have any of you recently stayed at either of these places (since the renovations)? If so, would you recommend it? I was just hoping that someone might be able to give me a first-hand recommendation and maybe help me decide which of these two places would be better. (Desert Inn quoted me about $10 less per night than the Carousel. So they are pretty comparable.)

Thanks in advance!

Hi there!

We stayed at the Desert Inn August, 2002. Here is a link to my posts about it just after we stayed there (everything was fresh in my mind then): http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=244277

We just stayed at the HoJo's in Anaheim in April. It was a wee bit of a farther walk (probably 5 minutes at most), but it was **MUCH** more enjoyable. I strongly recommend you go onto the MouseInfo.com website to get your best prices to stay there. You could take two nice rooms there or I believe they have a limited number of suites. Here's the link to my interaction with others about that hotel: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=340792.

We enjoyed ourselves so much we're going there again, for sure!

Let me know if you have any other questions. Finding a great hotel to stay at near DLR that won't take all of your vacation money is definitely a trick!

My family and I have stayed at the Desert Inn and Suites numerous times, with all sorts of family configurations - anywhere from 2-8 people. There are many different room options to choose from. You can check out their website for room options and pictures.

It isn't anything as fancy, but the rooms are clean and fairly large. The convenience to the parks is hard to beat. Just a quick walk across Harbor Blvd and you are there. There are also lots of restaurants nearby. A Denny's and IHOP are on either side of the motel.

I've also got reservations at HoJo for this summer. I've read a lot of good reviews about this hotel on Mouseplanet. Try their boards and if you book a room at HoJo you then email Willie (they tell you how to get his email) and he will try to get you an upgrade or discount on your rate. HTH
