Has anyone ordered the 2005 Passporter?

I really want to order the 2005 Passporter. Unfortunately, it is temporarily out of stock at chapters (where is costs about $32 CAD). I am impatient so I went to the Passporter Website. They are selling it for $18.66 in American dollars. I can't quite figure out how much this is going to cost me if I do order it. Shipping will be about $5.50 American as best I can figure plus taxes. So, I'm wondering if this will end up costing me much more than if I wait and order it from Chapters. So, I'm wondering if anyone can figure this out for me. Is it worth it?

Just to note, hippychickali, the us$18.66 price is for the looseleaf inserts (ie, the contents, but not the binding) for someone who already has the deluxe Passporter with binder (like me), or for the spiral-bound edition. I pre-ordered mine in December, and they have been having diffiiculty getting the new 2005 ones in their warehouse, due to printer problems (a strike in HK) and bad shipping problems (landslides on West Coast and part of their shipment getting misplaced by the shipping company). Since I pre-ordered, I have been getting their monthly newsletter (which is worth getting BTW) which has explained what has been going on. They expect to ship out the new 2005s in the next few weeks, first to the pre-order folks. Until then I am making due with the 2004 version and my fav' guidebook The Unofficial Guide to WDW.

I do enjoy the Passporter, and would recommend it. I'd go for the direct order form their website, since that will get you on their email mailing list.

Well, what does " PassPorter Walt Disney World 2005 Spiral Guide" mean? Does that really mean that you just get loose sheets? It's the same one for sale at Chapters (although temporarily out of stock). It looks like this:

Aren't the looseleaf pages part of the refill kit? I'm confused.

Other than the shipping/printing problems, would this end up costing (including taxes and shipping and any other costs) less than $33 Canadian?

The description says:

dining is also included, along with an entire section devoted to extra-special Disney magic. Design your vacation with the help of six planning worksheets, write your itinerary on the front of each organizer pocket before you go, store guidemaps, brochures, tickets, and receipts inside the pockets while you're there, and record expenses and memories to review and share when you return.

Are you sure it's just loose pages? This is really important for me to know.

The have different types of passporters. They have the spiral edition, which is a hard cover outside, with the pages inside being held by a spiral. The also have a deluxe edition which is like a binder and every year you just buy the refill pages for it. On the passporter website right now, the spiral edition is $18.66, this is the same price if you just want the refill pages instead. So don't worry, if you order the spiral edition, you will get an actual book, not just loose pages. I think it will cost you almost as much to order thru the website as you'll probably have to ship it global priority mail so that it comes to you in one piece.

Thank you Chickkypoo! That's what I thought. I've come to realize that the shipping would be way to expensive. I think Amazon.ca is my best bet but it won't be available for shipping (it is estimated) until March 29th or 30th. I think I'll hold off. Maybe I could make my own.

As someone who's ordered stuff from the states before, you're smart to wait until it's in stock in Canada.
Duty is a bear.

Hi Everyone,

I have also been patiently awaiting the new Passporter and as you can see I will be at WDW in a few short days

Because of the delays with the book I called and asked if I could have it shipped to ASMo where I will be arriving on February 24th. :hourglass

They were very accomodating and said it will be mailed immediately (I had ordered and paid for it in September 2004). Even though I won't have it for pre-planning I still want to have it on hand while we are there. :cheer2:

Once you get this book you will see how great it is and not want to be without it. I was willing to have it shipped to Ontario at the regular rate (Which was approx US$8) but now at least I won't have to pay the duty on it being shipped here (a plus, eh?) and I will still get it in time for my arrival. :wizard:

If you are considering buying the Passporter, I would highly recommend it.
Once you have it, you will forget about the shipping/duty costs which are really minimal in comparison to the amount you pay for a vacation to WDW and it will enhance you vacation. :flower:

IMHO,

Hey Ali,
i have been having the same dilemma. I bought the new Birnbaums and then wanted to get the Passporter. I tried to get it at Chapters(in store and online) and so far no luck. When I called Chapters just to ask what to do, the guy told me to wait until I see it on the website and order it from there. That way I get my irewards discount and am not paying in US$ or major shipping costs. Hopefully it will be out before we go!

Pooksma, you can preorder it at amazon.ca and it comes to around the same amount as at chapters.ca even without the benefit of iREWARDS. You won't get it until the end of March though. I think I'm just going to hold off. My trip's not until July anyway.
