My eyes are getting worse and I end up with eyestrain and headaches nearly every day. I am one of those people who hate spots on my glasses, find it distracting to drive a car with even a small chip on the windshield. I just don't know if I will be able to make the adjustment. Have any of you failed at bifocals? Do recommend trying the kind with lines or without the lines? Which is less annoying?

Hey which one are you wearing now ?? The Line or no line bifocal ?? How long have you had them ??

I'm with you, being easily distracted by spots on my glasses or a chip in the windshield.

My eye doc seems to think I'm still a few years away from needing bifocals, but I'm really having a hard time seeing up close now. My vision has always been very poor so I've worn contacts or glasses most of my life (and hated it.)

Now I'm considering Lasik, but I think that means I'd always need reading glasses... which I guess I'd need anyway, right?

My mom chose the bifocals without the obvious line, and she likes them, but the did take awhile to get used to. :confused3

I have progressive (no line) bifocals for both normal use and computer/reading...and I hate them. I don't know if it's just me, but they're blurry unless you look right down the middle of them. Thus if I move my eyes left or right my vision is fuzzy. And they're expensive to boot. I'll never get progressives again, I'll either try traditional bifocals (I haven't tried them before), or just have separate pairs for far and near vision.

Yes, I'm one of those who just couldn't adapt no matter how much I tried. :sad2: I have very poor eyesight and glaucoma. The glasses I have are for distance and I slide them down my nose to read... my opthomologist says that will work for awhile, until I run out of nose and can't slide them any further! :lmao:

Eventually I'll probably get reading glasses and switch between the two pairs.
With the economy the way it is, who knows when that will be though! :scared1:

I have a pair of single vision computer glasses, they work great. I'm going to insist that my kids use them when they get a little older to prevent eye strain. I had 20-20 vision until I was 16, I'm convinced that studying under flourescent lights contributed to my nearsightedness.

I had progressives, from Costco, for about....two days. I tried, I really did. I hated them. I returned them with no problem and they made new distance glasses for me, now I have reading glasses and distance. Love them.:thumbsup2 Its not for everybody, don't feel bad. Just return them.

I JUST got the progressive lens last week....finally.:lmao:

Anyway, I find that night driving is difficult with them.

As far as adjustment, well not too bad but then again my old pair of glasses were horrible so anything is an improvement.

I still have trouble with reading and the computer. I am still taking them off to read the computer.

I just got bifocals a few days ago and it is very difficult to get use to it. I hate that I have to tilt my head to use the computer  Oh well.

Oh, mine have the lines.

I have progressives and am having a hard time adjusting to them. I can pretty much wear them all day now, but still am not comfortable driving with them. I also find that my eyes are more "tired" at the end of the day than normal. But they were a small fortune so I'm not giving up on them just yet.

Thanks everyone! I'm just taking my glasses off right now to see things up close, but that's not going to last much longer. I think it would be annoying to see the blurry spots with the progressive lenses as some of you have mentioned. Two pairs of glasses may be my best bet.

I have progressives and so does my dh and neither of us have this 'blurry' spot, so we have not had that problem. I adjusted to them within about 30 minutes and it took my dh about 3 days.

That said, the problem I have now is that my vision has changed (gotten more far sighted) and I could really use a new prescription. But these babies cost me $550 and I don't want to put that money again out so soon.

If I could get Lasik, I would. (Can't due to an abnormality in one eye.) I feel like I'm constantly trying to find the right up-close focus and failing a lot of the time.

Me. I tried for 10 days, felt nauseous pretty much the whole time, my vision was blurry, couldn't see my own toes... tried new frames, thinking the one's I'd first picked weren't large enough... no go.

I traded them in for regular old glasses again, thank goodness. My mom swears by them, but nope, I won't ever try again.

I have the lines.. And the first 2 pair drove me nuts.. Needed glasses again and when the area for the line was measured properly I was jumping with joy because I had NO problems at all with them!! (Lenscrafters were the ones who got it "right"..)

Now if I could just find something to help with my night blindness.. Sigh..

I tried for 2 years and I HATED them. I went back to regular glasses and reading glasses for awhile, but in May I got one contact and it seems to be working well. I like it much better than the bifocals. I told the eye doctor I will have Lasiks before I go back to bifocals and he told me I was a good candidate, so thats what I will do in a few years.

I tried and tried too..for a few weeks, felt like throwing up most of the time, felt dizzy and almost fell down the stairs. I was told I wasn't using them right. :confused3 Tried a bit longer, when I almost drove off a road because I moved my head while driving and everything went all topsy turvey was when I called it quits. Back to distance only. I can still see pretty good up close, I need to move the book a bit furthur away but it;s not enough to make me ever want to wear those darn things again. I'll get myself some cute little reading glasses when the time comes that I think I need them

I tried the progressives a couple years ago - I wore them for about a month, but I just couldn't get used to them and was having horrible headaches. Took them back and got bifocals with the line and after a couple of days, I was doing fine with them. DH has progressives and loves them. To each his own!

I think my problem with the progressives was that I like to move my eyes around to see, rather than moving my head. For instance, when I'm driving, I'll move my eyes more often than moving my head to check the mirrors. With progressives you have such a small, narrow area for distance that you HAVE to move your head or else you're looking through a blurry area of the lens.
