Has anyone not been able to get seat assignments with Delta?

I'm getting nervous because I just booked our roundtrip tickets from Newark with Delta, and while we were given seat assignments for our trip to MCO, I was told she couldn"t give us seat assignments on our return trip because they were "blocked off".
Now I'm afraid the return flight is overbooked and we'll be bumped. The telephone operator said that wasn't the case, but I'm still worried. Has anyone else had that problem? It would seem to me that if seats were available, they should be able to assign them to you.

We were told the same thing on our flight this past July. We were actually hoping we would be bumped, but there were many empty seats. We thought they would split us up(we are a family of four) but our seats were all together, right over the wing. You might call the airlines as it gets closer to your departure.

We had this happen once on Delta. They could not assign seats once there were only 4 rows left unassigned they told us. I was a nervous wreck since I have 3 young children. We checked in very early so we could get seats together. It turned out that they had already assigned us seats together.(would have been nice to know !) It's more of a question of getting seats together than being bumped I believe. It seems like lots of people are happy to be bumped for the perks. If you are worried, check in early.

When we bought our plane tickets we were given seat numbers. The numbers appeared on my husbands e-ticket and mine but not on our sons e-ticket. It this because they need to see him before they put his seat number on the tick? Why would husbands and mine print out but not my 9yr olds?

This happened to us in July. We were assigned seats on our return flight but not going. Someone told me to get
to the airport at least 2 hours early. Our flight left at 6am! I'm glad we did. There was 8 people in front of us and
around 30 later there must have been close to 75 people behind us and they kept on coming and coming and
coming. Never saw that many people at a checkin counter in my life. Sadly alot of people were seperated from their
families. The check in person actually to me it pays to come early. My family of 5 were all seated together.

We got our seat assignments from Delta, but I was told that they were not supposed to assign them after the plane is 80% full. The reason being, they have to leave so many seats open to accomodate people with weelchairs and such. I was told it was no big deal and that they don't have a lot of people with weelchairs, but they still have to leave the seats open. I don't know how true that statement is, but it's what I was told. I booked 10 seats together and that's why they gave me the seat numbers. It will help when we arrive. (they also noted how many in our party to try to keep us together) They also said that the seat numbers can change if there are people (I'm figuring people with disabilities) that need them. HTH

In the past when they have given me tickets I found if you call them to confirm and tell them you are concerned that you dont have seats on one of the ways but you have them on the other they have always assigned my travel comp. and myself our seats...But it is always a good idea to get to the airport as early as possible...hey getting there early a few times has had my family and myself bumped up to business and first class! So it never hurts to be early...even when the flight does leave early in the morning

It's possible that they put you in an exit row, and your 9 year old can't sit there, so they'll reassign you (hopefully) to sit with your son. Sorry that sounds convoluted...
