Has anyone made an ergobaby back carry work in the parks?

I'm just pondering how to make the most of our park time with DS. He will be 1 at the time of our trip. I have an ergobaby carrier, and of course a stroller. However, it almost seems easier to use the ergo rather than the constant loading, unloading, and parking of the stroller. We will definitely still bring the stroller. DS only likes the ergo in the back carry these days. So, while I'm thinking using the ergo might simplify things, at the same time, as soon as we get on a ride, I would have to take him out since I can't really sit with him on my back. Looking for any suggestions on simplifying park time with a little one who is not yet walking.

DD was in the Ergo for much of her first trip when she was 11 months.

Neither she nor I liked the back carry. So she was mostly on my front.

Can you get him to enjoy being in the front from now until your trip?

If the only way he will stay in the carrier is on your back, all you can do is take him out and put him on your lap for the ride.

My son is 2.5 and he is still worn daily. When getting on rides I plan to have DH help me get him out of his carrier just before the ride and then put him back in once we exit. This usually takes us less than 30 seconds and we can even to it while walking. We are bringing our Kinderpack rather than wraps so things should go quicker.

We love not having the hassle of a stroller. I have ridden many rides with kids in carriers. Front is definitely easier than back for rides. I have done many shows with kids on my back though. I have been asked multiple times on Toy Story Mania to remove them. The reason given was that they had to be facing forward. I have never been asked to remove them on any other rides. Maybe put him on your back for the times you have several shows in a row or a longer walk. When you plan to ride several rides in a row, maybe just carry him from ride to ride? Like you said though, it doesn't really take that long to put a baby on your back if you are used to it...

I have done WDW with 2 different little ones in Ego's, both worn on my back. The only time I was told to take baby off my back was on the bus going from the TTC to the parking lot. I left her on my back during all the rides, just sat somewhat sideways with baby pointed towards the middle and me facing out. It was so easy to get on and off rides with the baby attached and not having to worry lol.

I am bringing our Boba (similar to the Ergo) and a Catbird Baby Pikkolo (also similar to the Ergo and Boba, but it also allows front facing out, which will be nice for rides). I am considering only bringing the stroller into EPCOT (since it's such a huge park) and wearing her in Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios. I will be bringing a couple of wraps as well, but I don't think I'm going to get too much use out of them simply because of convenience.

Have you tried this back carry method? The example is a Boba, but it works equally as well with any SSC.

It's way easier and so much faster to get on and off the back than the typical hip scoot or superman moves. I also feel like DD is way more secure with this method.

We haven't been to WDW with it, but we love using our Ergos for everything else. The more practice you give yourself before you go the better you will get. I can get the kids into the Ergo back carry by myself by sitting them on my left hip then grabbing her back leg with my right arm and snaking my left arm between her tummy and my back and scooching her into position. Like I said it takes a bit of practice, but we are planning on brining our Ergo as a back up for our 3 yr old on the trip next May

Thanks for all the replies! We have struggled with the ergo from day 1. DS has just never been a huge fan. He's totally attached to me though, which always makes me think he should be happy to be worn. He doesn't like to be put down and spends a lot of time on my hip. He'll stay in the ergo on my back, but if I do a front carry he squirms and fusses, eventually leading to full blown crying. I do have a sling that is actually still in the packaging. Maybe I need to try that out. It says it goes up to 35 pounds. DS is currently 25 pounds. Thanks again for the suggestions. I am going to watch that YouTube video.

Back carry totally works, at least at Disneyland and San Diego seaworld. (That's where we went when DS was little)

I never wore DS on rides anyway; it wasn't allowed by the CMs at he time we went, so he was out anyway. And since your son likes it you are probably proficient at getting him in and out.

As for other carries, are you just in your house doing housework etc? If so that might be the problem. If so, put him in the front carry (and just in case you don't know, because I saw a woman in public recently who didn't, with the ergo a front carry means the baby faces you, not out...good gosh, talk about taking the ergonomic ally correct out of the "ergo"!) and leave the house. My son refused to be worn inside the house except for the few times I wore him on my back for things like vacuuming. And that was really only on the traditional, quilted, huge and HOT podegi my MIL gave me.

In the parks just watch for signs of sleepiness so you can protect his neck, of course. And of course I mean have others watch for that, since he's behind you. :)

The thing I love about ergo and other buckle carriers is even after you take the child out you can just leave it around your waist and put baby back in. We did a lot of up and down with the ergo to at the parks.

If he really loves to be on your hip, have you thought about a Scootababy? It's an SSC specifically designed for hip carries. A ring sling is another option, but can get uncomfortable after longer periods with a heavier baby.

Thank you for posting this link! I've been uncomfortable putting DD in a back carry alone using the hip scoot and superman moves, so I haven't done it unless I had someone else with me who could put her in the carrier on my back.

This is so easy and secure! I tried it with DH spotting me earlier, but I can easily do it sitting on our bed as well (until I get comfortable enough to do it anywhere). Thanks again!

Thanks again. We will continue to practice with front carry. Maybe he'll end up loving it by October. :)

Side question....where should the top straps be when he's in a back carry? Not the strap that goes around my waist. The one above that. It's constantly scooting up and ending up right under my neck. This is making me think I'm putting the carrier on wrong.

Are you talking about the chest clip? I have mine right above my breasts and its tight so it holds my LO to me so it doesn't cause my body to hurt. I have it tight, so it doesn't slide all around.
