My 2 year old DS wants a "Poppins" cake for his 3rd birthday. Nothing like asking for the impossible. I've considered a carousel with possibly putting Mary, Bert, Jane and Michael on each of the horses.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Lori

Poppins no but I have done carousel cakes in the past with a double round cake stacked and hard candy sticks making up the "posts" and "roof supports" and animal crackers and string licorace for the animals.

What about getting one of the Barbie cake molds (the cake is her dress) and turning into Mary Poppins?

I tried the carousel cake idea once too and the cake was so moist that it just collapsed! :guilty:

My husband is really have a hard time with his son wanting a doll cake. :rotfl:

Thanks for the ideas.

How about doing a cake with the rooftops and chimneys? It would be pretty easy with a sheet cake as the base and then another to use to cut the peaks and chimneys.

What if you did a cake like one of the penguin waiters? From the movie but not a "doll" cake . . .

I was thinking of the penguins too. You could perhaps do a kite cake from the end of the movie? an umbrella? Is there a scene he particularly likes that could inspire something?

Don't forget to check out familyfun.com (I think that's the site) and also Wilton.com. Maybe you can get some ideas there.

If you can get past the "doll" idea, I think the barbie cake mold idea is terrific. One year DD was into Anastasia (movie from Fox). I found a Barbie that had hair/coloring similar to Anastasi and used her head on the body that comes with the mold. Made the yellow "dress" from frosting... matched the hair ribbon color and voila!! I have Anastasia! You could do something similar for MP. Find a Barbie (or Barbie-type doll) with short dark hair and pale skin... make the "dress" to look like either her white dress with red trim, or her dark coat and hat......Good Luck.........P
