Has anyone left seats unassigned with Spirit?

As a self professed control freak and someone who has flown Spirit many times with my children, I always pay to assign my seats. I can't let someone else have that much control. I also travel with a very shy 4 year old and would hate to have him sitting by a stranger. If you aren't a control freak such as myself than I think it would be okay to have them assigned for you. I know I waste alot of money paying for 5 assigned seats.

Is it just the four year old that you are worried about? If so, you could just purchase two seats (one for him and one for a parent), if you don't care if the other three people are sitting elsewhere/apart. It would reduce your costs. Or pay for four seats, if you are okay with one person sitting apart.

Just pointing out (for you and others) that you can pay for seats for only a portion of your party. For those with 1 child and 2+ adults, where the only worry is the child sitting with an adult, booking 2 seats is an option.

I am actually waiting to board my return flight now. From DTW I was assigned three seats together by Spirit, going home we had different seats, but I selected the change seats button and changed our seats. That is what I was trying to ask. What happened @ the airport? Maybe I can help someone else in the future. It probably helps that my planes were not full until the day of the flight.

Having a not full flight definitely helped you, as was pointed out in the thread. You can change your seats when you check-in IF there are seats to change to. It seems that there have been mixed results with this - with some people able to change and others stuck in separate seats.

I think it is best to just pay the fee and be sure of your seat when possible.
