How did you know you had it?

I've had severe (easily a 10 on a 1 to 10 scale) pain for 24 hrs now on my right side right above my hip area that just refuses to stop.......even with a pain killer that I had for my disc problem I had two weeks ago. I doubt the pain is from my disc because I think that just goes to the left side.

I've never had it, E, but I hope you go to the dr soon to find out what's causing your pain. I hope you get to feeling better soon.

Pain that intense is a signal of a problem. Please seek medical attention ASAP!

When I had appendicitis I threw up green bile. DW had her burst w/ months of recovery!

I had it, forget what side but it was non stop and the pain got worse until I could stand up, then headed to hospital

I had mine burst 10 years ago. I first felt really bad pain in my right lower side and went to the hospital. They ran some test and sent me home saying it was nothing. I was awake all that night in pain. I went back to the ER the next morning and all of a sudden the pain was gone. That's when they decided it was my appendix, but by then it had already burst. After the operation they had to keep my cut open to drain for a week. Go get it checked out right away!!!

Kitty, what exactly are you waiting for? Get to the hospital.
Please let us know how what happens, and if it's what you think, have someone let us know you're alright.

Thanks for such quick repsonses!!!

The only thing keeping me from going to ER is that I have NO other symptoms. And I just went to ER two weeks ago with a slipped disc problem. They're going to think I'm a hypochondriac!!!:o

I'll give it til noon.........my DS should be home from college by then so I can give him the Thanksgiving "to do" list. Hubby's working overtime so I don't want to bother him. Gosh, this just isn't a good day to be in pain!!!

Maybe I pulled a muscle from doing my back exercises at therapy. I can't believe the Vicodin didn't work!!!

Thanks for listening. You guys are the best and that's not just the pain meds talking!!!:o :D

LOL, if it's appendicitis, it's going to have to wait until thanksgiving is over?

Hopefully it's nothing. :)

Go right away. The longer you wait the worse it will be!!

I know from experience.

See, Laurie....you understand!!! Us women are just too busy to be sick!!! LOL (Think the pain killer is helping finally!!)

Jason......I would never blame you for ANYthing except maybe reading a long post!!!!:teeth:

KathyFP.....just how long did you wait???

I had it in the beginning of October, did the pain killer thing, and the pain subsided. I have a history of kidney stones, that's why I have pain pills on hand. But I went to the doctor anyway, he sent me for a cat scan, and there it was. I had it out the next week, it is done out patient if there are no problems, I went in at 9:30 am and was home at 2:20 pm. No problem! But I am atypical, no elevated white blood count, no fever, and the pain stopped. But you need to get it check ASAP.

Could be appendicitis, but it could also be an ovarian cyst (unless you've had a hysterectomy!)

From what I've heard, with appendicitis, when you press down on the area where it hurts, the pain is worse when you retract.

I agree with everyone here, get yourself to your MD or ER! Good luck!

My son had it in 2001 when he was 4. Abdominal pain was his only symptom- no vomiting, no fever, no NOTHING. They told me for 3 days it was NOT appendicitis and by the time I finally got him a CT scan it had burst and he was in the hospital for 3 days on IV antibiotics. My dh just told me a guy we know had his burst and he nearly died. Peritonitis is nothing to fool around with- go see a DR. and do it NOW.

Pain on right side.
Go to doctor.
It could be the Gall Bladder or Appendicitis. My wife had to get an Appendectomy. Her pain symptoms weren't textbook, it puzzled the doc. He went with his first hunch and it turned out that her appendix was just staring to flare.

I agree with Blondie, it could also be an ovarian cyst.

When my DS had appendicitis, the pain started in the center of his abdomen and moved to the right side. He had no other symptoms, but when we pressed on that area, it hurt more when it retracted. He was starting to develop a low grade fever by the time we got to the hospital.

DS had it when he was 9. He woke up at night and said he didn't feel good. The threw up and then kept saying his side hurt. I figured it was just from throughing up and told him to go back to bed. He slept on the couch the rest of the night and in the morning was still complaining about his (right) side. I never thought at his age it could be appendicitis but decided to look up the symptoms. Pain on right side, vomitimg and fever. So I took his temp and sure enough he had one. Called dr. made appt. before noon, he was sent to surgeon by 2:00pm and sent to the hospital from there. He was operated on by 6:00pm. Nothing to fool around with. Get checked out.

Thanks Blondie for the info. Of course, I just called my doc and they are all busy except for one of the PAs. I think if this pain persists (and boy is it right now!) I will go to the ER this evening. My DH heads off to work in an hour but college DS will be home later this afternoon.....he could drive me there. Then if it's nothing serious I could still hit some stores for last minute Thanksgiving things. Boy it sure will be last minute, too!!!
