Has anyone had the 'Closure' procedure for varicose veins?

Did it help? I'm considering having this done. That leg hurts so bad, swells, cramps, etc. even with old-granny-looking compression stockings. :headache::sick:

I'd appreciate any feedback. :goodvibes

Are you talking about a procedure where they feed a catheter up your leg and cauterize the vein all the way down? Forgive me if I'm not describing it correctly. My sister just had it done about a month ago. She has really bad veins in her legs, stands all day, and is overweight, and it resulted in what I think they called a venous ulcer on her leg. She had to wear a wound vac and have her leg wrapped for several weeks. I believe she had some pain for a couple of days after the procedure, but everything worked well. She's going back to do the other leg soon. I haven't asked her since a couple of days after the procedure what she thinks, but I think even then that her swelling had started to go down.

I'm not sure if this is what you mean, but I had the procedure where they put a cathetor up the vein, heat it, and then the vein colapses. It was a bit painful, even with the valium they had me take, but well worth it. My legs feel a ton better.

Insurance covered most of that for me, but I also had some injections done on spider veins that insurance did not cover. That didn't hurt at all.

Sounds like me. I don't have a venous ulcer but did your sister's result from the procedure or did she have that prior to having it?

Yes, that is it. They offered me valium too just to help take the edge off my nerves. It's not really for pain though.
I'm hoping to skip the valium so I don't have to have dh take off work to drive me home. They said it's optional. The whole thing can't be any worse than being wide awake for 2 c-sections and a breast biopsy. I work at the hosp I'm having it done at and have known the surgeon almost 20 yrs. I trust him completely so I will lay back with an ipod and picture myself on Castaway Cay. I'm hoping that will work. :goodvibes

So no regrets, right?

No, she had it before. The Dr. that treated her ulcer recommended her for the procedure. She's always had bad varicose veins, then she developed dark, hard spots on her legs, and one of them became an open wound after she accidentally hit it with a chair. She had to get that completely cleared up before she could have the procedure, but then she had it to prevent problems in the future.
