Has anyone Had a theft from the Disney Magic

I have been on three crusies with disney. I took my laptop placed it in my lugage because my carry ons were a three year old and a 1 year old and a 75 year old

we and lap top get there fine, 77 day crusie was a blast of course
on the day of departure Mario look our luggage from out state room
and my laptop was wrapped in a beach towel and a ribbon tied on my luggage. when i got back to memphis tn, the ribbon was gone, and my laptop was gone. my money, jewelry, camera, laptop mouse and laptop cord was all gone and my RED gateway lap top was missing

Disney was of no help, customs no help, local police no help
airlines no help, all blamed the other, bottom line is Disney was the last in possission of my luggage ( which we can not lock now because of homeland sercurity) Disney did not help me at all with this, offered no refund, nothing.
then i get home three weeks ago and last night on the new in memphis was a memphis couple who just go back from a 7 day magic crusie and
there lap top was stolen also. bottom line, this probalby will not be published on this site. but i hope it is because everyone needs to know
dont put anything in your luggage you want to keep

i lost probally 3300.oo dollars one a crusie that cost me 1500.00
and when i called port canavaral and the local police they told me lap tops were being stolen just about every week from the disney magic.

dont take anything unless you can take a carry one, i could not because i had two babies as my carry ons

if anyone can help me i would really appreicate it. sorry about my spelling

Regrettable experience, but ideally the OP now knows never to pack valuables in checked luggage.

None of the entities mentioned is responsible for valuable items packed in checked luggage - only the owner of those items is. If the OP has homeowner's or renter's insurance, maybe the missing items are covered. It will depend on coverage, deductible, and what evidence of ownership and value is available. That's the only help that can be given.

Even when traveling with small people who need to be carried on (to the plane, the ship, etc.), there are messenger-style bags that would have accommodated all the missing items and which can be worn with the strap cross-body. This frees up both hands and secures the valuable items.

I'm pretty sure if - as the OP reports - laptops were regularly being stolen from the Disney Magic, it would have been reported on this forum before. Since the OP had to resurrect a 3.5 year old thread on another forum to report this incident there as well but couldn't find a comparable thread on this forum, it's unlikely there's a problem with thefts from DCL-related luggage.

It's interesting that two different cruise parties from a single city lose items packed in checked luggage, but that city's airport is not suspected of any wrongdoing. Disney was not last in possession of the OP's luggage. It went from her to a CM to the dock to the bus to the airport to the plane to the destination airport. THAT airport is the 'last in possession of' entity.

I have to agree that I would never put a laptop or anything of considerable value including anything you mentioned being missing from your luggage in a checked bag. Homeland security's job is to make sure everyone traveling is safe. It is always possible that luggage will be checked. You can get plastic ties or invest in a special lock that HLS has the key to that they will not cut off if you want your luggage locked. Those flimsy little luggage locks never detered anyone from taking something out of a bag if they really wanted to long before 9/11 IMO. They were more trying to keep things from falling out if your luggage unzipped in transport. I remember one trip where I flew by myself to meet DH who was on a business trip. The kids were 11 mo and 34 months at the time. I had them, two five point harness car seats, diaper bag, backpack with toys and a carry on and used a double stroller and managed to get all of that on and off the planes both ways. You do what you have to do.

I do doubt that this happens every week because someone would have posted here. You don't find just warm and fuzzy stuff about DCL posted in these forums. I also have to agree with PP that DCL was NOT the last person to have possession of your luggage. A CM may have been the last person YOU saw with your luggage but as stated many people actually had contact with it. Since the common denominators in the two cases you state in your post are a DCL cruise and the town you live in and there have not been any other cases of this posted/reported linked to DCL, your local airport should be a suspect.

Did you not purchase travel insurance? I guess your post can be an example to the few people who may have not already known to keep all valuables in your possession to not pack them in checked luggage.

I left my digital camera in the Walt Disney Theatre.

While walking Deck 10 I ran into Pluto. He wanted to pose for a picture and I told him (and his guide) that I lost my camera and the theatre was closed.

Two hours later I got a phone call from Guest Services stating that
"Pluto" found my camera I just had to come identify it.

After DH lost his wallet with our passports in a taxi while on our honeymoon in Cabo San Lucus (traveling to the airport to return home), he now travels with wallet, ids, passports in a pouch inside his shirt.
(Our taxi driver noticed DH's backpack and returned to the airport! Needless to say, we tipped whatever was in DH's wallet!!!!)

I am sorry your stuff was stolen

If I packed my laptop in a checked bag I would expect it to be stolen. I never put anything of any value in a checked bag. I personally think the laptop got stollen at the airport. I highly doubt it was a CM.

Im sorry to hear about your loss but im with others that your stuff was stolen at the airport.I have been on 2 cruises with Disney and had the opportunity of watching them take the luggage and get it on the boat.They don't have anytime to open up your luggage and stow it away to take with them.your luggage is scanned by the police or security and then it goes into sections on the boat.Everyone would have to be in on it.I loaded a extra bag with 2 cases of beer and 2 half gallons of rum and vodka and it was not touched.I never put a laptop into luggage because it cpould get damaged when they throw bags around during loading.The airport on the other hand has alot of time to go through your stuff after it was scanned.

Wow, what a great ending. Cruise pictures are more value to us than any souvenir.

Whatever was in dh's wallet? I hope it was more valuable than what my dh has in his wallet - a license, an atm card, his business card, a bunch of Home Depot receipts and about two bucks.
