Has anyone gotten rid of their cable TV?

We gave up cable years ago, partly because of the expense and partly because we were watching too much TV. I've thought about getting it again, mostly because I want a cable modem and because our reception is pretty bad. But the expense stops me. My parents have cable, so if we really want to watch something we can go over there or ask them to tape something.

I did this a couple of summers ago. I had the cable off from June until the end of September. My kids survived without all of their cartoon channels. They also spent more time outside. I probably had the most trouble with it since I had back surgery during that time and was homebound for a couple of weeks. When the colder weather came I had sattelite installed. It's much cheaper than cable around here.

Hey BB!
We got rid of cable when we moved to our house. We did not want to spend the $55 (average) times 12 = $660. That is a huge chunk of change. We have okay regular tv stations, but our time is spent on listening to various media that we have (lots of cassettes), web surfing, and books.

We get the latest movies from Netflix, which lets us see if we like a movie enough to go buy it.

Don't know if your kids want to convert the money saved from getting cable into a vacation fund, car fund, or rain day splurging.

Catch ya later.
