Tried to see a Shuttle launch from the Cape?

What time did you leave Orlando? Where did you park or try to see it?

I have been given an opportunity to view the next, and last launch, from Cape Canveral itself. Has anyone ever done this? Can you share the experience?

To clarify, are you saying you're going to be able to see it with the VIPs, or that it's leaving from Cape Canaveral and you're wondering where to watch it from?

We would be going with VIP tickets; however, after adding up the cost of this last minute trip, we decided it was well outside of our budget.

Yes, but it's also kind of risky -- we were there for the shuttle this past spring on a fluke. It had been delayed twice, is the only reason it worked out. Which was great for us. On the other hand, hubby said there was no traffic getting to a good viewing point, because most people who'd come the first two times couldn't afford to try a third.

We were in Florida once for a shuttle launch. We tried to see it from our Orlando resort, but couldn't get a good position. I saw lots of great photos posted from Disney World, however, where there were good views of the launch.
