Has Anyone Ever thrown a DIS Party?

I was just wondering if anyone has ever thrown a DIS party for people who live around their area. I don't mean just your neighborhood but Town or county something a little larger. I live in western NY around Rochester, and I see a lot of people from the surrounding area on these boards. I would love to meet other DISrs in person and share experiences and tips. Does this sound kind of off the wall or "creepy" . I'm not a sick-o or anything just a fellow Disney obsessed nut I was thinking somewhere like a bookstore that had a cafe in it or a coffee shop would be a good meeting place. That could also be an idea a weekly or monthly DIS meeting. Am I starting to sound crazy Any way’s let me know what you think or if you would be interested in something like this. I think it would be neat to beable to meet new people and share stories about Disney.

I have not ever done something like that, but I have gone to some other meets from the DIS and they are a lot of fun. I think you would really enjoy having a party like that, and you would meet a lot of great people.

Yes, I think it was TownCrier that held a Memorial Day, Cedar Point bash.

Some of us MD/DC/VA people are getting together next Saturday. We also got together last fall (maybe before then that I wasn't aware of). We're getting together at a restaurant.

I had a big DIS picnic. It was years ago and it was a huge success. I even had quite a few out-of-towners show up. They stayed at the same local hotel. We actually had three days of events. We met Friday night near the hotel for dinner. Then Saturday was the all day picnic. Then we made breakfast for everyone Sunday morning before they hit the road. (I stole this idea from Towncrier!) It was a great weekend. I knew most of the people that attended and I met some great new friends. I'm still very close with a lot of them. They're my best friends!

We used to go to Towncrier's picnics every year. It was always a super-fun weekend!

Also, DIS people in this area have had a few meets over the years. We had our first one at a local mall. Then we had a really big meet at a Rain Forest Cafe at a different mall. We also had one meet in Philly at the Aids Walk and then met up with others at a TGI Fridays for dinner! The meets are fun. We share trip pictures and all sorts of fun stuff. It's nice to talk wtih others who share a love of Disney like you do.

We have meets at restaurants here in the DFW area every 3 or 4 months; we have a terrific group of DISers here . Sometimes we're a big group; sometimes we're small. Here's a picture from the meet we had on June 17th:

We've also done a Murder Mystery together, and gone to see the traveling 75 Years of Mickey statues together when they came through town. We might do a Disney on Ice show one of these days .

We've had DIS meets when DISers visiting DFW from out of state were our special guests (TLinden16, iluvdisney, WebmasterAlex, nativetxn).

We just had the meet last month, and we're already having another one on August 19th http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1163797.

If you have enough DISers in your area, just plan one for a public place where you can all meet up safely. A mall food court might be a good place for your first one so that you can have however many show up (or not) and be easily accommodated.

Just try planning one. It's easy. Post the information on the DIS meets forum, and you could even post a link here on the CB or on the Theme Parks board directing people to your meet thread. That way people from your area will see that one is going on. A lot of people don't know about the "DIS Meets" forum. Or even send a PM to some people you know from the boards who are in your area.
