Has anyone ever taken their dog with them to WDW?

And not camped?

We are not campers. But at lunch today, a friend of ours asked us, "Why don't you take Monty to Disney" and we said, "Well... we'd love to but..."

I'm just curious how it works if you kennel your dog on WDW property. Where are dogs allowed to go and where are they not allowed? Would Monty be able to walk through the DTD area?

How do dogs fare traveling on airplanes?

Any advice would be appreciated.

With many friends in the dog show community, I've heard them talk of how extremely hot the cargo area in planes gets. Don't do it!! In fact there are some airlines that will not fly animals during certain seasons. Monty is better off home in MA!!!

Have to agree about the flying. Probably would not be too fun for ol' Monty.

But I sure would love to meet Monty dog, as we are going to be at WDW at the same time;) !
I am obsessed with your dog! LOL!!!

Oh, I would not put him in the cargo area. I'd only do it if they would let me take him on the plane! My dad works with a lady who takes her very pampered little dog on planes with her all the time but I don't know how she does it. I just know the dog goes on the plane. But wouldn't the air pressure bother him?

Maybe we could take a train if we brought him?

I don't know. It all depends on whether or not he would be able to go anywhere aside from the kennel while we were there.

Dogs are allowed in the immediate kennel area. He would not be allowed at DTD.

In my experience the best kennel is the one at FW...not easy to get to, but the people were the nicest and it had a nice area to walk around.

Most dogs I know do not fare well with air travel. Altho he is small enough to fit under your seat I imagine...but then you have to deal with the possibility he could get airsick and vomit and then you're stuck with a puking pupper :(

Sounds like there will be no WDW for the Monty Dog. :( Oh well. Too bad they don't have a pet day where all the dogs can visit. :)

Can you imagine the monty thoughts for the day posts and CUTE pics of Monty at Magic Kingdom :hyper: :teeth:

I know, its wicked hard to leave them ,but its good for dogs to do the kennel stay once in awhile. It helps them to learn to be less dependent on their people and they do like to be with other dogs.
I know a great kennel in Rowley,MA if you decide to do the kennel stay.

Oh I know. Monty visits the kennel a few times a year. We love the place we take him. We just thought if he could go to DTD or walk around, it might be fun for him. bUt if he'd just have to stay in the kennel all day anyway, no sense bringing him.

Plus it costs money.

So does kenneling him at home. Actually, kenneling him at home costs more, but I'm not comfortable with a pet sitter coming into my house and I don't know anyone who can let him stay at their house.

I believe the HRH and the Royal Pacific allow cats and dogs in the room. I've heard great things about how well Loews hotels treat 4 legged friends :)

I'm not sure if there is doggy day care for him during the day though and I echo airhead about flying dogs - it's too risky. Especially in Dec when there's a big temp change between MA and FL

I have a friend who dog sits in her home. She has 2 cats though,so the dogs have to be ok with them. She lives in Waltham.

Monty's iffy with cats. He is afraid of them. Yes, I'm serious.

I like where we take him. It's expensive but worth it to know he's well taken care of.

The Universal hotels are pet-friendly. They even have room service for dogs (!!), doggie welcome treats, and you can hire people to walk them for you if you want.

So you could always stay there... I would assume since those hotels are dog friendly, that you could walk around CityWalk with him.

I recently checked on airfare for flying Harley to Orlando with us, and it's about $80 each way extra to fly him in the cabin with us (checked with all the airlines that fly out of here). That's a BUNCH of money!! He would have to be in an airline approved carrier that fits under the seat for the entire flight. He couldn't get out at all, whcih makes me sad... but I understand.

Of course, he could just stay at my moms while we went out, but after much thought, decided it wasn't worth $160 extra bucks for him to go. He can stay for free with my sister =)

Don't know if that helps any ;)

There was a thread a while back about how only certain "loops" at Fort Wilderness allow dogs, and folks sneak them into other loops. This disrupts your camping experience( barking and pooping).
I've always had a neighbor stop over daily to feed the dog.....don't you have a friend or neighbor who could do that?

I read that the dog is pretty much stuck in the kennel at WDW. This year Mika will be staying with her pop-pop.

:wave2:

Gunnar, the camping corgi, is coming up on his 12th visit to the world! He loves his vacations as much as we do. He gets to take long walks, he gets to ride alongside the bike (on lead), we walk along the canals, visit all the new neighbors, and his people are not gone to work all day.

He is the #2 reason we bought a motorhome. #1 was so we could go to Fort Wilderness more often!

Thanks all.

I don't have anyone nearby who I trust that is willing to come by and take care of him. Most of my friends live in the heart of the city and don't have car, or live on the other side of the state.

I'm happy with our kennel, but I just thought it might be more fun to take him.

I do not think he would be happy in a carrier under the seat. He'd bark the whole trip as he loathes being in a carrier. I would never check him in cargo. IMO, a living creature is not cargo. I could not do it.

However, if we ever drive down, I'd consider doing a few nights at Universal. I think it's great that they offer that.

Thank you all!
