It's an older movie I think. I fell asleep and really want to know how it ends. I really don't want to rent it unless I have to.

It's one of my favorites. I just bought the DVD this year. How far did you get into it. I'll tell you what happens - but just let me know where you dropped off.

I love this movie, even read the book years ago. funny because when I was younger I used to think it was so romantic. it is in a way, but now that I am married I would hate for dh or I to have a relationship like that. LOL!

how far into it did you get?

::yes::

I love this movie and have to watch it whenever I run across it. It is important to see the end. (Love the song, too)

I saw up until they were about in their 50's. Does one of them die and just not show up at the end? I'm assuming that's what happens anyway.

no, neither of them dies, at least not when the story ends. Alan Alda's wife dies and he shows up same time and all and feeds Ellen Burstyn a story about how he is going to marry his neighbor if E.B. won't leave Harry and marry him. He says he can't be alone, but the neighbor knows about the affair and won't allow it to continue. EB is distraught, but won't leave her husband...I think he may be unwell at this point, either way he is too dependent on her (she became a very successful caterer) and she just doesn't think it is fair. A.A. walks out, heading for his new life with the neighbor (debbie I think her name is). E.B. throws herself on the bed crying, A.A. comes back in and thows his stuff down and says its all a lie, he just wanted her to be with him always, but he will continue to show up every year until they are too old or something like that. Lots of tears, hugging and kissing.

Its been a while since I saw it, but that should be it in a nutshell. I always imagined that someday Harry would die too and they would end up together, travelling for some reason. who knows.

I love this movie, and the song too, it's been a long time since I've seen it, but mtemm's is on themark

Love the movie and the theme song. It's one of those old movies I could watch over and over. But, does anyone know who Lon Mc Allister was??? That was from a line in the movie.

I love this film. It's one of my favorites. I just caught it on TV about a week ago. Mtemm's recap of the ending was right on target.

I, too, love the song, The Last Time I Felt Like This. Actually, I could live without Johnny Mathis but Jane Oliver's voice is wonderful. The song was nominated for an Academy Award as was Ellen Burstyn's performance. She won the Golden Globe that year but lost the Best Actress Oscar to Jane Fonda for Coming Home

Great film.

My DH saw the play version with his MOM! :earseek: (Why his mom, I have no idea.) Loretta Swit played the woman in this adaptation.

Anyway, I also thought it was romantic and sweet. Now I would feel very different about this relationship.

Thanks mtemm! The ending sounds much better than I had envisioned. I'm glad neither one of them dies. I had also missed the beginning, so I may just have to rent it and see the whole thing next time.

rent it! the beginning is hysterical...won't go into details so I don't spoil it for you, but its great. I still love this movie even though I wouldn't like it to actually happen in my life. :)
