...from the DVC board? Has there been any problems? Is there anything I should know before I do it?

Hi,
You should post this on the DVC forum; maybe a mod can move it for you.
:D

I have rented from a member of this board. I don't think there have been any problems, maybe one along time ago, when the board was new. I had a great experience with a great person. It does require some trust on both parts. What we did was exchange e-mail addresses. The owner checked availability for me, we agreed on a price and he made the ressie for me. We agreed on a deposit amount. When I received(he sent it to me) the original confirmation from BWV in my name I sent a MO for the deposit. 30 days before my trip I sent the remainder of payment. We constantly e-mailed eachother during the process. Everything worked out great.
We will definately rent again and plan to in Nov.

I've rented DVC points 5 or 6 times from different DVC members each times & never had a problem. We leave 3 weeks from tomorrow & will be staying @ both VWL & BWV on rented points & I can't wait! It's a great way to stay "deluxe" without deluxe prices!:D

ditto-twice, never a problem. Totally recommended. Make sure you comunicate all your needs and questions before reservations are made. That way there are no dissapointments later.
I agree that you should hang out over on the rent/trade boards so you can go into this educated and knowing somewhat what to expect. Good luck!!:D

done it twice. really good way to save money but it is riskey - the DVC owner can cancel a reservation at any time . And although it seems rare on these boards, I have heard of at least one negative experience in the past.

I suggest that you do not post a "want to rent" message. Just wait and watch and when someone posts a "points for rent" message- then you can get an idea about who that person is by reading past posts by them etc... I would only rent from people who have a long post history (not just 1 -3 posts) and who are very open with information. Ask for references.

The last time that I rented, I drew up a short agreement/contract - we both agreed to it's contents by email and then both signed and made copies before any reservation was made or money exchanged. This way, both of us at least have a piece of paper spelling out the agreement.

Once you rent the points, you have that reservation and although some folks will make a change for you if necessary (or if they are able to) - mostly what's done is done - so be sure you want those dates and intend to travel because generally it's a no refund deal. There are more restrictions with using points - so make sure you understand that before renting.
good luck.

We rented for the first time on our last trip. We are renting for our next trip as well, from the same person. We trust this person immensely since we had no problems before. He gave us references which I called. He has been wonderful in giving us advice (he goes down to WDW a few times a year) and always has great ideas even for us (we have been there 5 times ourselves). Keep in mind though, that points can run anywhere from $8 (for someone who is trying to get rid of theirs fast) to $13 or so. You pay per point. If you want to go over a weekend you need to remember that Fri and Sat nights cost the owners about twice as many points, which means those nights will be twice as much money. We go Sun- Thurs night and then add two nights on at another Disney hotel with a discount code (usually!). There is a point calculator on this site in which you can put in your dates and see how many points you would need. Here is the link:

We will be staying at BCV for about 1/2 of the price it would normally cost rack rate!! I agree with the above poster who suggested that you go lurk over on the rent/trade board for awhile. Good luck!!
