I'm toying with the option of flying Delta from JFK to Melbourne....has anyone ever done this? How did you then get from Melbourne to Port Canaveral? Taxi? Car service? Was it expensive?
Melbourne is an extremely easy, pleasant airport to get through. Much easier than Orlando. The problem has always been available flights, connections, and cost. The new NY direct flight looks good. Never have used it for the port, but a reliable shuttle service is www.artsshuttle.com Reasonable rates.
Right now Delta has a $79 each way fare on the MLB-JFK flights (not including taxes and fees, but even with those it is around $170 roundtrip. I am not sure of all the dates it applies to though). Another shuttle service is Melbourne Airport Shuttle and it is located right in the terminal. (321) 724-1600 It has special Port rates.
Melbourne is FABULOUS to fly into! We normally use it when we fly to that area.
We normally use the Melbourne Airport Shuttle (http://www.mlbair.com/i-ground.html) for transporation if we don't rent a car. I'm sure there are other good ones in the area as well.
Melb Airport is less busy, less crowded, NO LINES, and so close to the port. Probably only about 20 minutes. With Delta flying directly now from JFK and also from Atlanta, best way to go.
Now I realize you meant Melbourne, Florida. Not Melbourne, Australia. I was going to say yes, I've flown into Melbourne, Australia but never Melbourne, Florida. And I live in North Carolina!
I think we might try this in October. It looks like Delta is significantly cheaper to fly from Detroit to Melbourne than Detroit to Orlando. What sort of transportation services did everyone use? I assume Tiffany's doesn't pick-up in Melbourne... Do they have shuttle/limo services to take you to the Port/Port hotels?
