Has anyone ever "fired" their cleaning woman?

Can I fire myself? :smooth:

LOL!!!!!! I'm going to tell my husband that I fired the cleaning lady today and see what he says. :teeth:

I never understood my mom or grandma...they would clean the house themselves BEFORE the housekeeper came! We did have to fire one because we came home earlier than the housekeeper expected and we found her sitting on our sofa, feet propped up on the living room table watching soaps!

We had some questions about the amount of time she was getting paid for vs. the amount of time she was actually here. We talked, and I believe it is resolved.

I did. My new years resolution to myself was to have a clean house. So, I hired a service -- which actually turned out to be just 1 woman who came to clean. The service told me it would be $80 for 2 hours and an additional $20 every hour after that.

The first day, she was here 3 1/2 hours and charged me $100. I went to pay her and she asked me to make the check payable to cash. Hmmm, I wondered but I did as she asked me. I did call the service and inquire as to who the checks should be payable to -- since I need to be able to prove my deductions on my taxes. I was told to make them to the company.

The next Saturday, the woman showed up with a man. They spent 1 hour (2 man hours) and when I went to pay them, she told me $80 wasn't enough, it was "same as last time". Pushed me for another $100 and then told me to make it payable to "cash" again. This time, I paid $100 but made it to the company instead.

After they left, I called the company and told them we were through. The owner offered another person and a "crew" as I was originally promised. Sorry, I took my business elsewhere.

Now I have a true crew who come in Wednesday mornings while I'm out with the kids. It's very nice to come home to a clean house -- well worth the money to me. :D

Glad to hear i'm not the only one who's had problems with their cleaning service. I can't believe that in this day and age, people actually steal money from a client and they think that they won't get caught. I mean, how dumb can you be?

I've been through 4 cleaning ladies! They all started out well enough but that didn't last. I found that I could do a much better job and I wasn't even getting paid! I really ended up so frustrated with the whole thing that I have yet to get another maid. It has been over a year and I've been doing it myself.

LOL!!!

I've had a good experience with Cleaning Authority. I just cancelled them, but it was because of $$ and not because I was displeased with the service. They are very organized about how they do things, and have an alternating system of areas that get deep cleaning and more surface level cleaning.

I had the advantage of being home when they were here, so I could keep an eye on things. (I work 30 hours a week and home school my kids, but I still felt guilty watching other people clean my house...even though I was very productively occupied doing schoolwork with the kids while they were here!) We had the same two ladies for about six months, and got to know and love them. They're moving out of state (they're related to each other) so that made it easier for me to cancel the service.

And I'm one who spends several hours "cleaning" before they get here. It takes me that long to get everything picked up and the surfaces clear enough that they can clean them. They've told me about other clients whose houses are so messy that it makes it nearly impossible for them to really clean. Knowing that "the cleaners are coming!" was great motivation to keep stuff under control. Somehow we're going to have to do it all ourselves now. I'm planning on going to the janitorial supply store to get some decent equipment to make it easier. For instance, the cleaners had a huge Sh-mop, which is much more efficient for cleaning wood and tile floors than my teeny Swiffer.

I would never have one, not comfortable with a total stranger in my house besides my 10 yr old son loves doing chores and does a pretty good job and he's cheap!

I haven't had a cleaning lady in years and years, but back when I was first married and we were both working full-time, we did have one. We let her go after she tried to clean a stain on the BLUE CARPET with BLEACH. Needless to say, we replaced her--and the carpet. (and then stopped having one altogether when I became a SAHM).

I totally fired my cleaning service about 2 years ago. They kept coming to our house (they get dropped off and picked up) 2 or more hours early! I was pregnant, had DS and a dog to get out of the house. The morning they showed up at 6:30 was the last straw for me. I called their manager and screamed at her until she hung up on me (I think I was a bit hormonal ). I only did this after about the third time they showed up way too early. They were great cleaners and reasonably priced, and I do regret not having them anymore, but I'm paying for a service, and I want it when I want it, not when they want to give it to me.

Yes, we fired our cleaning service a year ago. We liked the job they did for the most part, but they kept breaking things. They broke a piece off of the shade in my daughter's room, a couple of trinket boxes on my vanity and the cup in my children's bathroom. Even that we would have understood, except that they'd break things and then just toss them in the trash without telling us that something had been broken! We always felt like they were in such a big rush to get things done that they didn't really care if they broke things.

This thread is great!

I have fired two cleaning services because they rush through the house and do a lousy job...I despise housecleaning, but at least when I get around to doing it, I know it's done right!

Can I just move into the Grand Floridian....room 5341...PLEASE????

Luv ya all, mean it!

I had the best cleaning lady, she taught me a few things and I thought I was miss sanitary!
She went to jail for somthing to do with oui, I think...
She really was the best I've ever seen.
I've cleaned myself since then, I don't think anyone could measure up to her.
