Has anyone ever done laundry before???

I've done laundry on both vacations, used the laundry at the POR and this last trip at the AKL. With young children you do go through so much clothes and of course they have their favorites! I have learned now last two trips that I'm still way overpacking because we always do laundry once and I come home with stuff they've worn twice after laundering and other stuff we've never even worn! As for the facilities, I had no problem aside from finding my way back from the POR laundry room to my room carrying clothes! I got mixed up and it took me 20 min to get back! At the AKL I used the laundry near the pool so during loads I would go out and sit with the family by the pool, very convenient!! Last trip I did 3 washer loads, 3 dryers and bought detergent etc and spent a good $20. This time I will bring my own detergent etc and just use the machines. There was a tip on the all ears newsletter a while back about one family who brings one of those fold down flat baskets, they use it for the dirty laundry and it's convenient as it folds flat and is light!

Anything more than 5 days and I have to do laundry. Try to keep it to a load or two, whites and mixed, but in our family, we don't have 10 pair of "decent-looking" socks, undies, tshirts, etc. While we can wear jean shorts or jogging pants more than one day which we pack for the "just in case" weather (in the winter, not during the "sweaty" months") we all have our favorite shirts and lighter shorts/skirts :cool1: . Also keeps the luggage manageable.

Usuallythe laundry is by the pool, so you can do it while you are enjoying the pool area.

The one thing I do wish is that WDW woud put a scanner thing on the washer/dryer so you could swipe your room card to charge it to the room instead of having to have quarters with you.

With a preschooler and a toddler, I have to do laundry.

It's $2 for a 30 min. wash and $2 for 30 min. of drying. For a large load, I did one wash cycle but split the load into 2 dryers for drying. I took my own laundry soap and dryer sheets. There was a coin machine and a vending machine for soap and fabric softener ($1 ea. per load).

At POFQ, the laundry facilities were handily located near the pool and pool bar. After I finished all of the laundry, I purchased a pina colada -- I had earned it.

One tip: With young kids, it's always wise to pack some stain stick/stain spray!

We go for stays of at least 10 days and don't want to carry that much luggage. We usually half fill all of our bags to make room for new stuff, and then end up having to buy a new bag to put new stuff in and then ship a bunch of new stuff home.
DH and I have 4 weeks off this January. We will be at WDW for 3 weeks, and the other week is for driving. So, we (hubby and me) will be doing laundry. :sunny: Since I have decided to do some shopping for new clothes, I'll need some room to bring them back with me. So, I am packing "old" clothes to throw out after we wear them. By "old" clothes, I mean those jeans, shorts, t-shirts, etc, I am tired of wearing or are near the give-to-charity stage. I figure I'll have to do laundry at least 3 times while I am there, and then again when I get home.
Is the laundry room at POP near a pool? I like the idea of sitting near a pool while I'm doing laundry. :teeth: Hmmmmm pina colada sounds delicious!!!! :drinking1

Oh, this thread is scaring me. Yikes! My husband is the one who has done our family's laundry on just about every single WDW vacation. We have another vacation coming up shortly and it will be our longest vacation yet. The scary part is that my husband won't be with me on this vacation. Do you know what that means? Yep. I'm going to be the one who will be doing my family's laundry. Oh, woe is me!

One of our weeks will be spent at the AKL. Luckily, I know where the laundry room is located, thanks to my husband. He was one of the first guests to do laundry at the AKL on the day that the resort officially opened up to the public: click here for laundry room photo.

Thanks to everyone with their tips!!! :goodvibes I don't know how I could better plan for our upcoming trip without all the advice and ideas from the DISboards. It will make a very memorable trip for our DS4 and DD3 and hopefully all without a hitch. Thanks and keep the reponses coming

I didn't have time to read this whole thread, so forgive me if my quarter idea was mentioned.........

Start saving your quarters. You can pack quarters in one of those canisters that 35 mm film comes in--they fit perfectly!

Target usually has a travel size of Tide (good for 4 loads) for 99 cents, and you could easily pack dryer sheets.

On our last trip I did not plan on doing laundry. My kids were swimming and I was reading while watching them. I knew that in two days when I got home the laundry would be taking over my life. I washed a couple of loads. It did seem to take 2 cycles to dry. The machines seem to be located near the pools so why not do laundry if your going to be there anyway. I'm glad I did. On our next trip I'm sure I'll do it again. :rolleyes1
