Has anyone ever changed their Dis name?

So, I was asked a few times on PCC 3.0 the significance of my Dis name. And the answer is "there is none"

When I signed up for the boards in December 2004, I wasn't quite sure what I was doing and used that terrible random AOL handle that they used to assign. If I'd understood it more, I would've come up with something more creative.

So, on this trip, DH came up with an AWESOME one and I'm considering changing my screen name but am sad about losing my posting history, etc....

Has anyone else ever changed their identity????

I have twice I believe and not because they were horrible, but because I forgot my name a few times and the password. Now its super easy for me to remember!

Denice, I'm in the same situation as you. When I joined the DIS, I used my AOL handle because I was worried that I wouldn't remember my DIS user name. With the login/password software that I now use, that isn't an issue. I haven't thought of a good new name yet, but when I do, I'm switching.

I say go for it -- just tell us all what your new username is!

I haven't changed mine, but know some who have before. Technically, you need to "start over" and create a new account with the desired name. You'll lose your post count, but might be happier with your new DIS name. If you go decide to make the change though, I'd recommend putting your old one in your signature for awhile so we know it's you. ;)

What a great idea. I have thought about changing mine almost from the beginning but didn't want to lose my post count. My name was one I've used since the start of internet and I would like something more signifigant to my love of Disney and the disboards...maybe eventually.

You can customize the wording under your name. You could put your old name there. :)

Tons of people change names. Tons of people have multiple names. Someone once said that the DIS is really comprised of about a dozen people with a bunch of different names, lol.

One poster added a name just so that she could get more tags. :rotfl:

I have! I decided that having my first and last names as a username on any website was not a good idea, so I created a new one for security purposes.

Hear hear. About two months ago for me.

I think about it all the time. My history, joined date, and post count hold me back.

Even though mine is ultra borning, and I am actually no longer a CherylA but now a CherylB, I can't let it go. My join date is too cool :) and I don't have a ton of posts but enought that I don't want to lose them. I so wish that in the beginning (my actual join date is 1998) I had chosen something really fun, back then I think I had my pick of just about anything. I wonder if MinnieMouse was available then or strait out Cheryl, or Tinkerbell or ILuvDisney, at the time I don't think I realized how few people were on here! Forget it now, you have to add some number to the end of the popular names to get something that works!

I've though about changing mine a few times, because people always think I'm a member of d23, which I am not. d23cndrela has been my email address and my go to username for more years than d23 has been around. It just a coincedence that my first name starts with a D and my favorite # is 23. In the end I always wind up keeping it. Good luck in which ever you choose.

This is good info. If you really want to change your name, you can put your original name & year you joined either in your signature, or as your user title.

Post counts used to mean more back in the day before posting wars/games. Now, I look more at the join date to the number of posts a person has (well, I do look at # of posts, but they really don't mean as much). :)

I originally signed up as cc...when I thought I was joining to ask 1 question about my then upcoming 1st Disney Cruise. :rotfl: After being around for a bit and seeing CC was also the abbreviation for Castaway Cay(and used for credit card), and an abbreviation for a moderator back then, I decided to expand it a bit. Back when I did this I was able to keep my date and post count...yes it was THAT long ago! :goodvibes

I thought of this, too. I hate my username. I had originally signed up in 1999--the year of our first trip. I forgot that, so in 2001 (the year of our second trip) I just stuck this one on there--and have been stuck with it ever since. I like having an older join date--one of the old timers. I wish I could have remembered the original one, though. I have my name as part of my signature, so that works for me.

But how do you make a new one? I tried to do this but it says that an account with my email already exists. I only have one email. Is there a way to delete the old account? I thought about changing because people asked before if I have 23 babies. It's supposed to be "mama to three babies". Should have thought about that before...

23 babies? Wow! Guess we'll be seeing your reality series on cable this fall. :-)

I just decided to do this very thing. My screen name is so boring. I think I also figured when I first joined I would ask a question, get the answer and be done. But noooooooooooooooooo....I stuck around for the last 8 years. :hyper:

So, anyway...I just started a new one with a new name but I'm not sure how to convey that it's me!! Think I'll make my pic my avatar just like on this one and will put it in my signature.

When I first joined I wanted to be either Figment or the Cheshire Cat. But both were taken, so I made the decision to merge them and take my true personality as my name. I now use it on all boards I frequent (except eBay).
