Has anyone ever bought pins from...

ProPins are made in Germany and are a licensed Disney product. However, many people consider them to be much inferior quality (but not as bad as Sedesma) to those sold by Disney.

Since they are licensed and legal, technically they are tradeable with CM lanyards. However it is very unlikely that you will find any trader willing to accept them.

Yes, it will allow you to get better pins off a CM lanyard at a low cost, but it will also give a reputation as a cheapskate.

Wow...that isn't quite the response that I expected. I ordered them for a surprise 3 day trip so each of my 4 kids could have 10 to trade. On the sight, it said they were official and could be traded. That is the only reason I ordered them. When I got them, they did seem sub standard so I posted on this board. So...do I lose 75.00 or do I let my kids have fun with the CM's...the initial intention anyway. They have rarely traded with anyone else. I guess you can call me a cheepskate:(

How can a new trader tell what is a good pin, propin or sedesma? I don't want to be considered a cheapskate because I can't tell the difference!!

Take them and have fun- Just dont be totally surprised if its harder to trade off due to volume of propins taking over the lanyards.

As for the differences- Its pretty easy once ya get used to them

Sedesma usually are not totally flat (ie the design is sunk into the pin), have a darker colored back, smaller

These are 2 examples of Sedemsa

Propins are generally smaller, gold based and look like they have a clear bubble on top of them- they are harder to tell apart but once ya figure it out they are easy to spot

Regular pins generally look cleaner than the other 2 and the pin is usually flat (unless its designed differently)

The most cut and dry- Look on the back as the copyright will usuallytell ya what kind of pin it is...

You can take your pins and give them to your kids to trade.... I bet they don't care what they look like and will have a blast... Have a great trip....

I doubt that any cast member would think your children are cheap nor their trades sub-standard. Give them the pins and let them have fun. Some of my favorite pins are these ProPins so at times it is in the eyes of the beholder.

A good rule of thumb is to try and find synthetic cloisonne or real cloisonne type pins to trade. These pins will have a heavier feel to them and will appear flat versus the soft enamel pins which will appear concave or the photo pins which will have a domed appearance to them. Disney Store or park pins make great traders and can usually be found on eBay or Internet stores as pin lots. These are by far the safest way to go as they are Disney product.

Hope that helps, please let us know how your trip went and whether the kids had fun with their pin trading.

ITA!!! I purchased a large amount of pins from mousepinsonline.com before my July trip and have purchased several more for my upcomng trip in November. I have kept a few of the pins for my own collection!!!
Why are people judging whether others are "cheapskates"? Do any of us really have the authority to judge another person? And more importantly... do you really care what others think (especially if they're going to be that petty?)
Let your children have fun... and if you decide that you want to be a professional pin trader/collector and want to pay high price for each pin, then that is your choice and you are more than welcome to do things differently for your next trip!!!

P.S. If you decide that you don't want to use the propins, please let me know!!!
