Has anyone done this? Overlap reservations

We are staying at POR royal room for my daughter's upcoming birthday trip. She wants to stay at the Grand Floridian which is way out of my budget for 8 days. However, Nana suggested we stay one night on her birthday night, which is fine but we don't plan on checking out of POR. We figured will be gone just for one night and we don't want to have to check in at POR again as we will still be staying there for rest of the week. Will Disney allow this? Can I have two resort reservations overlapping one another? I just don't want to be obligated to check out, lug our stuff to Grand Floridian for just one night just to lug everything back at POR.

Are you the only adult on the POR reservation? If not, you could book the GF reservation under the other adult and if you don’t happen to make it back to your POR room until morning one day, well, you don’t. If you were planning to turn down housekeeping at POR for the gift card (I believe all moderate resorts qualify), they may not even realize you were gone.

While I have had overlapping reservations for a day or two in MDE, without any issues, I haven’t actually tried what you are considering. I have done it at other hotels, where I have stayed somewhere else for a night or two, but in those cases I let the hotel know I would be gone but not checking out. My only concern would be if both reservations have the same primary guest listed and that causes a problem with their computer system. I am sure you are not the first person to want to do this.

Another option would be to stay at GF the last night of the trip instead of the actual birthday. You could either let her know on her birthday what will be happening, or let it be a complete surprise.

No, I am not the only adult and I have no idea about a gift card. LOL. My concern was the computer system as well. I don't want to run into any confusions or issues. Thank you for the suggestions! Staying on there on last night does seem like an easier thing to do and a great surprise.
