This will be our first disney cruise and I am debating on if we should do a shore excursion in Nassau. My children are into history and thought that the city tour sounded like a good idea. Is it worth it? Would we be missing out if we jus stay on the ship? We are doing the 4 day cruise. Any other excursions stick out? My children are 10,8, and 5. Thanks!

We have done the two hour historical city tour. We booked the first one, right after the ship docked. We were finished early so we had the rest of the day to explore. We (myself, hubby and daughter 22), thought it was excellent. They take you to the Queens staircase, allow you time to climb and explore, there is a light house at the top you can ride the elevator to the top and look out over the island/water. There is a couple of stops at forts, to explore, great views and photo spots at all of these. They give a an overview of the plant life, homes, etc. If your kids like history/exploring I think this would be great for all of you.

Definately, DO NOT, let someone talk you into staying on the ship. Nassau is fun, the people are very nice. Go and enjoy of bit of it. Also, you can let the kids mail postcards back to their friends from Nassau, you can buy the postcards/stamps at the pharmacy, it is very close to the port. Then, just drop them in the big red mailbox. Let the kids mail one back to themselves as well, so they have the postmark for a souvenier.

My mom and I took my DN13 for the city tour and it was interesting. A lot depends on the English skills and personality of the driver, if it is a tour taxi. If it is more of a bus, the announcer's skills as public speaker weigh heavily. One thing I learned from the tour is that some of the most dilapidated and insignificant parts of Nassau are the most historically significant so the tour isn't pretty, by any means.

Nov 2003 - didn't get off in Nassau

Nov 2004 - got off, drug DD14 with me, did the historic city tour

DD went back & forth between being interested and being semi-bored. She stuck it out, and overly "survived" (which is the best I can get out of a teen). I enjoyed it and got some spectacular pictures.

I would definitely do it again.....
