has anyone done a trade to Key West?

DH and I are thinking about celebrating our 20th anniversary at Key West (leaving our DS at home) next summer or fall. We really enjoyed our stop there on our DCL western cruise this summer and wished we had more time to see everything. Has anyone done a DVC trade to one of the properties there? If so, what was your opinion? Also, do you think it is essential to have a car while you are there? Anybody rent a scooter? If so, any idea on the cost? Sorry for so many questions! Thanks

Since no one's responding, I'll give you what I can. First, I haven't stayed in any but have seen the Hyatt Sunset Harbor. Of the four, it is the best and Banyan is the worst. All the Hyatt's and the Galleon are 5*, the Banyan is not. There is another Hyatt, expect it to be added soon. Here's the deal, Sunset Harbor, Galleon and Banyan have location. They other 2 Hyatt's (only on on DVC NOW) are nice but a few miles away from the action. From what I know, only the Hyatt Sunset Harbor and Galleon would be worthy of a one to one trade using DVC. The Banyan has relatively poor reviews though it is appealing to me in that much of it is in historic buildings.

Remember that Summer is low season so you could likely get a rental for a fraction of what the points are worth. Or maybe a direct exchange through TUG or other say a studio for a larger unit or 5 days avoiding weekend for 7 there.

Thanks for your input Dean. My DVC guide is supposed to call me back this week ("poor" thing, she was working on The Magic last week ~ what a job, I think I need a career change!). I think I may look at direct rentals too and weigh out the $$ vs points options. I was leaning towards the Hyatt Sunset Harbor, so at least I was headed in the right direction. Thanks again.

I'm not sure what your guide would have to do with it. They are not directly involved nor generally very knowledgeable about exchange options unless they have been to a specific area or resort. Your best best would be to go to TUG , join and read the reviews. Of course for direct exchanges, you'd have more options than just those on the DVC exchange list.

i [ut in for a trade to hyatt or galleon last feb for feb 06. haven't heard anything yet!!
wasn't sure how direct trade would work. been to TUG but didn't see anything listed

Most II resorts can only deposit 12 months out and most matches occur at or under 6 months. So I wouldn't get discouraged for some time to come. If you want a direct exchange, you should post on TUG in the appropriate sections as well as contacting everyone listed that has what you want.
