We are hoping to have my DD adopted by DH. As far as she knows he is her DADDY..she knows no different other than she has a different last name than her little brother. She is 7 and is not at all even close to asking anything about why she has a different last name. We are hoping to have her adopted this summer right before we head to WDW in August. Wasnt sure if anyone has celebrated an adoption and if so what types of "extras" if any have you gotten.

I don't see why not. Celebrate anything you want. What better thing to celebrate than a family coming together fully.

When asked by cast members what we were celebrating, we said we were celebrating being a family through the miracle of adoption. My DC were adopted internationally and of a different race. We didn't get any extras, just a congratulations. :)

We tried......

My kids (2 of them) got balloons and a card from Mickey and a Princess delivered to our room.

When we were at the Wilderness lodge....can't think of the name of the restaurant (Whispering canyon maybe???)....the loud one in the lobby. Our waiter asked what are you celebrating? I think this was because the place was alive with Happy b-days, anniversarys etc. So, I say...Jolicia and Antonio are now part of our forever family and we are here to celebrate with them. THe waiter looked at me with this blank face and walked away. I guess he didn't know if that was something he should yell out and bring attention to????

Thank you so much...I hope this thread didnt sound like I was trying to get extra things...just wasnt sure if it was something worth making a big deal about at Disney...

You can choose to celebrate whatever you want..Disney may or may not acknwledge it though.

We celebrated the adoption of both of our girls on separate trips (adopted years apart). DD7 received an autographed pic of Cindrella that said "Welcome to the family" (in our room at the Poly when we arrived). I don't think DD2 got anything as special - just a cupcake with a candle at Chef Mickey's, but then again she was very young and wouldn't have understood anyway.

You could arrange to have something in the room when you check in. On one of our trips DH snuck into the room while DD7 and I were walking to it. He put a new Jasmine dress in the closet with a note from Mickey and Minnie telling her to have a magical trip. When we arrived at the room, we let her put the shoes in the closet and she discovered the dress. She was thrilled!

Last year we celebrated DS 2 adoption and we didn't really get anything for it. We tried to get to a character breakfast at CMC and we thought we could get there from epcot but couldnt an awsome CM can't remember her name she works in transportation gave us a ride to our breakfast and gave my boys pirate hats that was an awsome experiance she did ask us what we where celebrating and we told her and she thought that was the coolest thing ever and went on and on about how we were awsome for adopting and more people should do that.
