I found the link to that site and checked it out for the US area. It shows a 2 star hotel for only 32.00 a night ! and a 3 star was 69.00 I believe.

We wouldn't get to pick out the hotel but we could possibly rent a vehicle threw them too for only 360.00 for a mini van for a week.

We're thinking the money we would save we could either use a taxi to get back and forth to the parks, or rent a car, or find a shuttle service.

Has anyone used the I drive Trolley ? I'm not sure what it is but it lists the hotels as being close to that.

BE CAREFUL! We booked a hotel through Entertainment last year to stay offsite our first night. It was so horrible I cant even describe it. We had to go out to the grocery store and buy LYSOL before I would sleep there.

have a trip booked in may. rented a van through Dollar for $159 for a week using code KISS2

We've booked hotels several times through hotwire. Make sure that if you book you use www.betterbidding.com to identify your hotel before you bid on it. You can pretty much identify a lot of them through their descriptions.

Thanks for the code. I just did it and it works out to 204.90 with taxes etc. We won't be going back to the airport after the stay so I don't think a rental will work out.

We found a shuttle that will take us from the airport to the hotel and now we are checking if they can then take us to Pop Century since we are going to WDW after US. We plan to use Magical Express from Pop to the airport.

Plus I don't know if I feel like dealing with parking lol.

I just checked the I Drive Trolley and that is so cheap. It's only 9.00 a day and runs every 30 mins from 8 am - 10:30 pm. This way we can stay at the parks late and send the older ones ( 21 yrs, 17 yrs, 14 yrs & 12 yrs old) to the park and go Christmas shopping by ourselves using the Trolley.

I'm not too worried about the hotel because we can always do a quick clean up if it's really bad but honestly we won't spend much time at the actual hotel. And Hot Wire has a guarantee and states if there is any problem with things not being as they are stated on the web site to contact them for a resolution. I think we should be ok.

But I"m wondering if anyone has actually booked with hot wire and how it was.

Hotels we've booked are the Argonaut in San Francisco, the Westin in Hilton Head Island, the Sheraton Gateway in Toronto. I research each listing and was quite confident that these were the hotels I would be betting on.

Before booking a hotel sight unseen I would type in your dates to expedia, kayak, travelocity and orbitz first. Get a feel for the rates. Read the transportation board for car company codes and deals, as the other posted proved deals can be had. :thumbsup2 Sometimes the hotel you end up with from hotwire isn't as close or desirable as you may have liked.

On our last trip to Orlando, we had a flight leaving very early in the morning. We booked the airport hotel thru hotwire for $55. The website price was $275. We got an excellent room facing the runway.

I knew through comparing amenities and customer reviews that the hotel I was bidding on was the Sheraton Gateway.

I tried to check out that site and I am lost. How do identify the hotel before you bid ?

Actually, I use this page. It has hotels identified by their amenities.

Thats a great way to compare but since it's last update is 2003 is it accurate?

*after looking around more I see the cross outs they list so I'm guessing they keep it updated. Great link! Was the airport hotel the hyatt you stayed at? I have to bookmark that and remember it for next time we fly in late or leave early. Thanks!

It was the one in Toronto for our flight heading down to Orlando.
We have stayed at the hyatt in Orlando but didn't know about Hotwire way back then. It was about 2000.
We certainly weren't impressed. It was a mess. Maybe they have renovated since then.

I used hotwire for my hotel room in December. I was able to get a dirt cheap room at one of the Orlando Hampton Inns. It was in a great location, got a free breakfast every morning, and they did not charge a resort fee.

There is another website to check out bidding for travel. I don't remember if it was that or better bidding that I used to figure out the room but its worth checking out both.

Thanks so much everyone.

I checked that site out and it seems to show 3 hotels. I checked out those hotels web sites and they look ok to me.

Then I went back to hotwire only to have it not show any universal area hotels available !

So I will check hot wire again tomorrow and see if it shows any then.

Catrina, if you post the dates you are looking at, I'll check hotwire out for you and see what I can identify.

We're going Dec 12th - 19th at Universal. (19th - 27th at WDW)

Thanks for all your help !

The 3* one looks for $69 looks like it could be the Crowne Plaza Universal but one of the amenities is different than what was pinned and the 2.5* one for $53 looks like the comfort Inn Universal Studios.

I can't identify the other two.

3* for $69 is a good price if it is the Crowne Plaza but I wouldn't bet on it because amenities aren't identical. I think it might be the Doubletree. Keep watching.

If that is the case that rate is incredible. The Crowne Plaza Universal for those dates is pricing at $199.99 a night and thats a special.

Another way to get a 'feel' for what hotel they may be offering is to choose build a package. When you do it this way the hotels are disclosed along with their star rating. Since the dates are so far out choose the hotel air combo and 21 hotel packages are offered.
