Has anyone been to WDW in august?

We went to Disney as part of my son's Make-A-Wish trip in August 2005. We were allowed to skip every line in the park, including cutting to the front of Character lines. Even with these advantages - it was way too hot. We could hardly breathe. We still had fun, but almost every one of our pictures from the trip look like we were spayed with a hose. I would recommend going later in the year.

Okay, in defense of Florida. Yes, it is hot and humid in August. The temperatures will be in the 90s. That is really not that different from many other states in August. While it is humid, it is no more humid that many other places in August. What makes it seem so bad is that you will be tromping around on asphalt/cement which absorbs the heat. When you are at home, you don't spend extended periods of time walking around on these surfaces when it's hot. Also, you will be outside a great deal. At home, I doubt very much you spend many hours outside when it is in the upper 90s. So, it will be hot. It will be uncomfortable. Plan on taking frequent breaks in the air conditioning and you will be fine.

Whether it will rain each day or not is not certain. This past year was extremely dry. Afternoon thunderstorms were infrequent. The year prior, we had a lot of them. So, it is not a certainty. You just need to be ready to deal with whatever the weather throws at you.

We went late August/early September of 2007 and yes, it was hot and humid... but no more so than in Ohio where we live so it was no different than being at home.

Having said that, at home I am not out in the environment 12 hours a day either, I am truly out very little, ecspecially on a really humid day. While we don't have AC (we do have one window unit), our home is a lot more bearable than being outside.

At WDW we drank A LOT of bottled water, dressed cool and comfy, I bought a spray water bottle that holds ice (we shared), and we brought (ugh  gross) "sweat rags" to wipe your brow. Son and I both have asthma, thankfully a TS dinner allowed for quite a cool down period daily.

You will be hot, but fine, for the most part! :) IF it gets to be to much, I would say go back to the resort and take a nap in your cool room, or a dip in the pool! :thumbsup2 Also, when it rains (not storms, no lightening...but simply rains) enjoy it! :goodvibes The park clears out a lot, but a lot of attractions are still open/run... it is awesome! :woohoo:

Hurricane season starts in June and ends on November 1, so I wouldn't sweat it.

Hurricanes aren't like earthquakes... you can see them coming. You can prepare or get out of the way. Disney is used to it; they've been in Florida for quite some time now and know which precautions to take.

So go when the time is right for your family, get trip insurance, and don't worry about the weather.

Personally, I would never go in August. We live in Vermont and just aren't used to that type of heat. I couldn't imagine lasting in it for a day but that's just me- other ppl will do just fine as you've read from the previous posters.

Our favorite week to go is the very last week of April. We've done it 3 times now in the past few years and it's perfect. The weather is hot but no unbearable and the crowds are not bad at all. We won't be able to do it much longer though as I don't want to pull the kids out of school once they are older.

We were at Disney during Hurricane Charley. We were extremely impressed with how well we were kept informed of any changes in the storm. We received regular updates via the phone messages, as well as printed fliers under our doors. Disney did a great job of making sure that there was food for everyone, too. They set up a buffet in the lobby of the Boardwalk for all guests. There was more of a 'party' atmosphere than panic. Of course, all storms and circumstances are different, but we were impressed with how things were handled when we were there. Hope this helps!
