Has ANYONE been to a waterpark in Jan?

HI,

I'm looking forward to my next WDW trip in January (not been for 6.5 years)... DBF can't wait for Blizzard Beach.

So here is my question... BB is open at this time but I keep reading that so many won't swim or go to waterparks during this time... I know it might get chilly but compared to the winter in the UK 60-70 degree's sounds nice and pleasant. We've been known to be at a waterpark in the UK when it was snowing (yes the water was very heated!!) so we're ok with it a little nippy.

Has ANYONE been to a waterpark or swimming whilst at WDW in january? We will go to the waterpark on the warmest looking day but we will go there no matter what. Are we crazy??

Any thoughts?!

Not crazy at all! We always manage at least one visit to a water park during our stays in Dec. and Jan. You have the right idea; just pay attention to the forecast and when its suppose to be above 72-75 go for it! Water will feel warm and there will be no lines to wait in. Have Fun!

I'm from Canada and have been to the waterparks in the January. I find the temperatures at that time similar to our summer temperatures here so it's great for me. Plus the crowds aren't as bad then.
We also always swim at the resort pools when we're there in the winter, they're heated anyway.

I was starting to get seriously worried. It's DBF newbie trip, but I've been before with my parents (4 trips). I'm trying to add as much pixie dust to the trip as possible but the day he wants to go to the most is BB.

Glad we're not the only ones who will attempt it!

We went to Blizzard Beach this past January. The temperature was in the mid 80s and it was wonderful! Admittedly it was unusually warm, but it happens.

Fellow UK-er here! :wave2:

I'd do it. We swim at midnight when in Florida, the worst part is going back to the air conditioning! :rotfl:

For us it seems warm. But we swim in our back garden when its in the 70s with no problem (and no humidity to speak of ) so Florida should be fine. Have faith in the Florida sun and you'll be fine :goodvibes

And take advantage of the fact that the parks will be empty, you'll have Summit Plummet to yourselves!! :goodvibes

Thanks, we'll be there from January 15th - January 29th so that won't be a problem. It's the first thing we checked when the park hours were released!!

Correction...DBF will have Summit Plummit to himself!! It's the only water slide you won't get me anywhere near. I'll be the one at the bottom taking photographs!!

Hi
I'm gutted to hear the dates that bb is closed for. we are going to be in fl from dec 17 to jan 5....where do i find out what is open at this time :confused3

I went to BB this past January on a mild day. There were little to no lines to speak of, and I was able to do all I wanted in a couple hours. The weather was not a problem, and it was nice to be able to enjoy an empty park.

Enjoy you trip.

:rotfl: I hate it too!!

Last trip I spent 90 mins waiting for my DP and FIL to get off that thing. I was like a lobster, the heat was absolutely blistering! Never again!!

We were there in mid January 2005. Since we only had 3 days (DH was there for a convention) we chose the warmest, which was unfortunately only about a high of 62. I warned the kids over and over before we went that it would be cold and I would be paying a lot and they weren't going to whine about being cold and just do stuff if we went. We had convention passes and had to pay full price for BB.

Well we got there and had fun for about a half hour (and really hit nearly all the big rides during that time) and then they were cold and miserable. We dried off and got food and I tried to convince everyone that they wanted to do a little bit more. We did about another half hour while we all shivered. (And we were from Michigan at the time, now Green Bay so we're not strangers to cold weather).

Did we waste our money? No, I'd say not because we probably accomplished as much as we would have in about 5 hours in the summer time. Did we enjoy it? Not really ;) ! I wouldn't do it again at that time of year, but we really didn't think we'd be going back to Disney again and my kids wanted to have a chance to go there. If you won't be back when it's warmer and want to experience it, go for it. I'd recommend doing as much as you can before drying off though, because once you do, it's hard to get motivated to get wet again.

Also, friends of ours were there the first week of January that year and it was in the 80's much of the time. My parents were there the end of January and it was in the upper 70's and lower 80's. So there's a good chance you might hit a warm day anyways. Anything over 75 you'll enjoy and there still won't be crowds.
