So, we got the early word that DH's turn will be coming up sometimes after Oct. 1, we don't know how long or where. He is the AF Reserves, coming up on 22 years! The only good thing is that since he just made Master, and due to the nature of his job, the chance that he'd have to go overseas is very, very remote! Although, as many of you know, things aren't always 100%! We won't know probably for awhile, but as he was told, he'll be better off volunteering for a tour somewhere, then he'll have a better pick. He's an IMA, so he gets activated as an individual, not part of a unit.
Anyway, after he got promoted, he was reassigned to a different Region, so he's never been at any of these bases before. It's possible he could go to a couple on the Los Angeles area, but he'd rather not. Another was Hill AFB, Utah. And then there's our top choices - Eglin AFB, Florida, & Arnold AFB, Tennessee. We're thinking that if he can go to Arnold, it would be better since it's a lot closer than FL. Although he's been stationed in FL before, at Tyndall, it's a much further drive.
We don't know if it'll be a few months or another year. He was at Tyndall for a year. And I'm not relocating the kids and myself even if it is a year. The thought of leaving all our stuff here just worries me. So we'll take it as it comes and plan for lengthy visits. But, we're just wondering about Arnold AFB and if anyone's been there, what they think.
This somewhat came as a shock to me. He just found out at the end of his 2 weeks at his new base, when he came home on Friday he told me. I knew it was always a chance, and we suspected that he would get activated again in the next few years, but it still is hard when you hear it's becoming more of a reality.
