Has anyone become allergic to a medication

Had a really bad reaction to Amoxicillin last spring - not sure if it was an allergic reaction - or if I had mono - I understand you can have a hard time if you take Amoxicillin with mono. I couldn't get my Dr to answer questions about - just shrugged.....I need to get a new Dr.!!! So, I guess I will just avoid taking that med from now on - in case it was an allergy!

My sore throat and other symptoms had just started to get better - but within 24 hours of taking the Amoxicillin I felt ten times sicker than I had to begin with. This was followed by hives on my legs at first - then spread to arms and body. I also had a horrible feeling in my lungs - not sure if that was hives or not.

(Friday afternoon when the symptoms first began I called Drs. office to tell them I thought I was having an allergic reaction - they just acted like it was nothing to be worried about and that they felt I should continue to take the meds. When I asked what I should do if the symptoms continued to worsen over the weekend - I got a sarcastic "well ,then I guess you should come in and see us on Monday". I didn't know whether to take myself off the meds because - at the time - I wasn't sure if I felt worse because that was just the course of my cold/or whatever had - or if it truly was the meds. By Saturday evening I was so scared it was the meds that I just took myself off them.)
