My husbands passport needs to be renewed but we both work late and can't make it to the passport office. I'm thinking about mailing in the application but i'm worried about sending his birth certificate and current passport in the mail. So to those of you that applied by mail, did everything go smoothly? Did you get all your documents back? TIA :)

i only did it in person, because I was told by an agent that if you have a passport location in your city of residence, you must use that rather than mail it in. not sure how accurate that is, maybe give the passport office a quick call>?

We did it by mail last year. I sent in four applications (2 adult, 2 child) with all the id.
Send it in the most secure mail they will allow - I think I did it by Xpresspost so I had a tracking # - for some reason I think I remember them not allowing it to go by registered mail...
Everything came back - four envelopes with all items secure.
Just give yourself enough time so you're not in a panic about waiting for it to come back. Ours arrived exactly when the Passport office said they would!

We mailed ours and we have a passport office nearby and everything came back safe and sound.

We've mailed ours every time... sent it express post, no signature required (I think that's why they won't allow registered :confused3 )

No problems:)

We actually did our passports at the post office - they sent the application in for us after checking all the documentation.

Our passports with the orginal documentation (ie. birth certificates) came in about a week :thumbsup2

We have to go to the Passport office, being identical twins with the same initials too. We were told that if we mailed it they would think were the same person twice, they even have to write twin on the application.

We tried this way as well but I was a bit worried about the woman checking out applications. She's seemed as though she really wasn't sure what she was doing and asked for a couple of items that I knew weren't needed. So I took them back off her and went to a different post office and just mailed them Xpresspost. Of course the applications were fine and everything came back quickly and safe!
