Dh and I went on our first date in forever last saturday night and saw it. Daniel had his first non-relative babysitter, which was hard, but worked out fine in the end.

We LOVED this movie! Its been so long since I left a movie grinning from ear to ear, just feeling great. Even dh, who I had to drag kicking and complaining to it loved it...laughed throughout it and thanked me for making him see it.

anybody else get a chance to see it?

Yes! Dh and I saw it last weekend and really, really liked it. I was surprised how much he liked it, too and he said he was glad we saw it. It was definitely one of those feel good movies! I thought it was done really well, too---not too sappy. Two thumbs up from us!

Actually love it. :)
DH likes it even more than me, to my surprise. It's an upbeat movie. The only bad thing is that 2 women next to me won't stop chatting.

I saw it also. It was very good and I'm going to buy it when it comes out on DVD.

I REALLY want to see this movie. DH and i very very rarely get to go to a movie :( But I think I am gonna kick my feet to get him to take me to this one. After all Colin Firth is in it HOW could I miss it.

I saw it yesterday & loved it too!:D

My DH and I saw it. Afterwards, when seeing previews on TV, he was concerned that it sort of seems advertised like it might be OK to take kids to (even though it's rated R). He thought the "porno" couple went beyond nudity and was far too graphic for even teenage kids. We go to lots of movies and see kids in many R rated movies. The theater was packed, but we couldn't remember seeing any kids. Also, after we left, my DH commented that he was left with the impression that UKer's don't like Americans very much. He wondered if the "Billy Bob Clinton" character is really how they feel about our President, and if they think all American women (even those wholesome ones from Wisconsin;) ) hang out in bars waiting to have group sex. There were so many story lines to follow, but I think it was done very well. I thought it was very funny and light hearted (except I felt bad for Emma Thompson's character). I think it's a great date movie.

I think Emma THompson's character grounded the movie into reality into of turning it into a sappy movie that it could have become. JMHO. But I also agree that this movie isn't for teenagers or below. I saw several adolescents at the movie and they shouldn't have been there!

I was so very excited to go see this movie and then so very disappointed in it. Too many story lines that didn't connect, the porn scenes were WAY too explicit, and it just didn't give me that "feel good" feeling I had hoped for. I know I'm in the minority, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

I saw it twice, and love it both times. A fine ensemble cast, and I enjoyed the intertwining stories. I too could have done without the scenes with the porno stars, although I thought their deadpanning was hilarious; and the scenes with the stupid American women in love with the Brit was a tad offensive. Other than that, though, I loved this movie.

see now I loved the part about American women loving men with english accents. I can't tell you how many women I know that fit that bill! LOL! Now, it was completely exaggerated for effect, of course, but I thought it was hysterical.

I also liked the porn bit. Of course, Martin Freeman who was the male star of that segment is a favorite of mine...he's from The Office. I would have no problem with older teens seeing that, but then I have more of a problem with the violence that is in most movies than sex. This movie was so refreshingly free of violence!

Do I think young children should see it, not at all. Its rated R for a reason. Growing up I was never allowed to see R rated movies until I was 16 or so.

Can't wait till it comes on on dvd!

Saw it with my girlfriends.

We really enjoyed it. The kid was adorable (although we all went for Colin Firth, Alan Rickman, Liam Neeson and Hugh Grant - I think we all left in love with the kid).

That said:

Natalie was NOT FAT! The whole fat thing in the movie really set my teeth on edge.

Although I wasn't offended by the "stand ins" people should be aware that there is a story line about two people who meet while "standing in" for movie actors during sex scenes. The nudity is limited to breasts and butts, but they do stimulate several acts

We all had a problem with beautiful young women going after guys that - while we lust after in our late 30s because we are in our late 30s and they are famous actors - a twenty something woman in the storyline wouldn't look twice at. They didn't make much effort to make Alan Rickman or Liam Neeson look desireable.

The normal looking woman (Emma Thompson, Laura Linney) didn't get happy storylines.

The ensemble nature of the storyline may be a little hard to follow and doesn't leave all the ends tied up happily.

The movie isn't 100% kind to Americans. (I didn't have an issue with this, but others might).

They didn't make much effort to make Alan Rickman or Liam Neeson look desireable.

They were both looking pretty darned desirable to me! :p I'd take these two over the two younger actors, Colin Firth & Hugh Grant, any day of the week. :)

Haven't seen it yet, but since LIAM NEESON is in it -- that's a MUST for me!!!;)

Liam Neeson has a fabulous storyline, with such a range of emotions involved! I agree his stepson was a scene-stealer...my god the eyes on that kid!

I thought the porn stand-in scenes made an excellent point about nudity/sexuality vs. true intimacy. The way that relationship played out was very much in keeping with that point.

I was so excited to see Martin Freeman that I exclaimed "TIM!!" quite loudly and got a few looks from other moviegoers. Hee heee... oops!

LOVED this movie, but I agree there were about three too many stories. They could've dumped the Keira Knightley wedding/ best friend thing easily.

Oh, see I disagree - the Keira Knightly long triangle was one of the best storylines of the whole movie, imo. The part at the end when he comes by and tells her how he feels through storyboards was just so beautiful, one of the best movie scenes of all time, and neither actor had to say a word. Another great movie scene from that movie is when Emma Thompson finds out that her husband has given the necklace to someone else - that scene was amazing how she was able to convey her anquish with just her body language. Acting at its finest!

Oh, Snoopy...I agree with your comments on Emma Thompson's reaction 100%. I had the biggest lump in my throat as I watched that scene. She didn't say a word, but her emotion was *so* clear. I thought she was brilliant!! ::yes::
