Has anybody ever used pts for hotels like Poly, YBC, Cont????

I was curious if you can get different types of rooms at these hotels. Not just a standard room.

I read recently about the conceirge rooms at YBC. Would I be able to use pts for these rooms? Or perhaps a suite at one of the Disney hotels? Or would I just be able to purchase a standard room with either a preferred view or a standard view.

Has anybody ever chosen a more luxury-type room with their points??

Used points to stay at BC. We got a standard room but at check in asked for a front view and got it. As I understand it points cannot be used for concierge rooms

Good luck :) :)

I've seen several reports of DVC members on points at these places getting lagoon views, etc... There were also some who reported being allowed to upgrade to concierge with cash, or something like that.

According to our papers it says that points may not be used for suites or concierge.

Kind of makes it hard to decide whether to pay cash at these places or use points...since if you pay cash at least you know what you're getting.

Our family stayed at the YC on points in Dec...we had requested a certain room but as it was taken already they said to stay in our room that 1st nite and then we would be able to go to the other room the next day...I packed all our stuff and we went to the front desk in the morning and they said no problem go and enjoy the parks when we got back we could go to our new room..lo & behold when we got back they had given our room to someone else!!...they felt so bad and gave us the conceige!!! we were in heaven for the next 6 days!!!we are all so spoiled now...LOL...but sometimes things happen and we did not even complain they just did it and thats why Disney always has the MAGIC...Marianne :)

We just stayed at DxL last month on points. Alot of points (IMOH) for not as much luxury as a DVC property! We had no choice but to book DxL as we had to be in Orlando that week and there were no DVC properties available. I was afraid to waitlist and be stuck without accomodations. We don't think we will do that again!

our first trip using points was at the wilderness lodge last year and i'm glad we did, because now that the villas have been built, dvc members cannot stay in the hotel part, just the villas.

you pay more for the hotel but you also get more i think. in january we spent a week at our home resort, bwv, used very few of our 200 points and now we are going to bank them to stay at the GF for our anniversary next april.

i don't like to cook on my vacation and i like being taken care of, especially if it's just my husband and i, so that's why we plan to do every other trip at a full service hotel and our family trips with our daughter at the boardwalk.

by the way, for any of you dvc members that do not know this, they are building villas at the yacht and beach club so once those are built, we as dvc members will not be able to stay at the yacht and beach club hotel, we will only be able to stay at the villas

We bought our DVC in April 2000 with banked points from a resale. My brother and family had never been, so instead of a grand villa, we stayed at the Contemporary Towers with connecting rooms. We wanted to be on the monorail and close to MK. We requested a certain floor and MK view. They did give us what we asked for, (not that being a DVC member gave us any perks - they always try to do request, if possible). From what I understand, you cannot get a suite or conceirge level with your points. If I were going to stay in The Disney Collection again, I would only use my points for a deluxe accomodations since the points are so high. Personally, would not use them for CBR, CS, or PO.

To me the required points just seemed too high. With Dis Club discount I'd rather pay the cash for Poly and save the pts for DVC resorts.

Thanks everybody for the input. This give me a lot to think about for the future! :)

We will be staying at the AKL on points in two weeks. We had to cancel our October visit (which I reserved at exactly the 11 month mark) because I will be too pregnant to travel. So, we decided to go to WDW and try to get an AP rate, figuring that it was too late for DVC accom. Well, I got an AP rate on a Deluxe Savannah view room at AKL, which was still too high for DH's tastes. So, he said that we could only go if I could get something on points (which we'd need to borrow) for some of the nights to shave down the price.

Well, I called, and the DVC MS rep said that she could book me the same category room at AKL for three nights (but not the 1st three or the last 3). So, although we're spending 30 points a night, it is for a room that is ~$400 a night rack rate.

Hopefully, we won't have to switch rooms. I did put in a request, and will fax the room coordinator, but I'm not holding my breath.
