One of the guys at Roger's shop answered the phone and I thought it was Roger and started talking to him. Roger had asked me for advice about one of his daughters (she's waiting until the night before tests/papers to do anything about them and then telling him that she didn't find out about them until that day at school.) I told him at the time that I didn't have any advice because my kids weren't to that stage yet (she's 12), but I got some advice from another friend and called back to give it to him. So, I said to this coworker of his "Remember that question you asked me about your daughter?" He was like "HUH?" I said "Is this Roger?" He said "No, I think he's gone for the day." I was so embarrassed....I said "OHMIGOD!!!!! I am so, so, so sorry." He said "don't worry about it....it's cool" but I'm still a little embarrassed. Has anybody else ever started talking to someone that they thought was someone they knew because they mistook the voice?

Yes I have. People have also done it to me, started talking when they thought I was someone else.

Although not related to the telephone call. I once grabbed a guys hand at Epcot. We were in the outside lobby place of the Honey I Shrunk The Audience, about to go through to pick up the 3d glasses, and I reached behind me to grab SO's hand so we wouldn't get separated in the big crowd. Well I was holding the hand of a stranger!!! We both got a laugh out of this, and afterwards I was much more careful to look before grabbing someones hand!!

I have also had people do that to me when I would be at my mom's. They said we sounded alike although I didn't think so.

Now the embarrassing thing similar to that was not on the phone but in person....I came back one day a lunch and was walking toward the elevator. Standing there waiting for it was a lady with her back to me. So I went up behind her and said something joking ......this persons hair was EXACTLY the same as one of our staff members...when she turned around I had to have gone 20 different shades of red!!!!!! And to top it off I was having problems with my foot so I had to ride up in the elevator with her....we joked about it the whole way up - but I was so embarrassed!!!!

My sister and I would be on the giving end of this. When we were much younger we worked in the same office and very frequently answered the phone. A lot of the time, if we were expecting a call from a certain client, we would answer the phone as if we were the other one. This one man would be totally lost - not knowing which one of us he was speaking too. It was a lot of fun - for us, not sure he felt the same.

I love the story about grabbing the wrong hand. Thanks for the chuckle.

People always confuse me and my Mom when I answer her phone.
The hardest was when I was living with the woman I was named after and both of us go by shortened nicknames, I am Jacqui and she is Jackie.
When people would call and ask for one of us, it was hard to specify. I was in early 20's and she was in early 40's. I am 5'3", she is 4'11". It wouldn't be quite right to say, "Old or young... short or tall?"

No, not on the phone but....

Once on an elevator I grabbed the child in front of me by the shoulders trying to stop him from getting out on the wrong floor thinking it was my DS and it wasn't!! The boys father chuckled as I apologized.:D

:p too funny! Once I was in the stands filming my kids at a wrestling tournament, and I was yelling for my son, then he got flipped over to his back (bad, very bad in wrestling) and I was going nuts yelling telling him to get off his back, when, my son walked up and tapped me on the shoulder and said...mom...who are you filming......OMG! I was filming and SCREAMING at somebody's elses son....I wanted to crawl under the bleachers!:o

Yes, I work for a female attorney, and at least once a day, I answer the phone and the caller thinks I'm my boss. They will launch into their legal woes, and it's usually hard to interrupt and tell them I'm not her. It's usually new clients. Regulars know that I answer the phone with the firm name, and she answers it with just her name. At home, people used to confuse the girls and me. Now that they don't live at home, I don't have that problem.

Actually it happens a lot. My oldest daughter and I sound just alike I'm told.

Yup, I've done that occasionally. I've also picked up the phone and immediately started talking as though I knew who the person was because I was expecting a call, then found out that the person who was calling wasn't who I expected.

Hasn't everyone been at the grocery store perusing the products on the shelves and turned to a complete stranger and said " do you think we need soup?":D
