I ordered stamps through USPS's website on February 4. I order stamps there frequently, and have never had a problem, so I was surprised when nearly 2 weeks go by and I don't have my stamps.

Anyhow, I contacted USPS via e-mail on Wednesday (there is no phone number listed to call), and I received a confirmation that I'll receive a reply within 24 hours. By Friday, I had no response. So, I disputed the charge on Friday with my credit card (AMEX); there is an option to dispute the charge due to non-receipt of product. I was told that it could take 4-6 weeks for the investigation to be resolved.

Has anyone disputed a charge on a CC? If so, what was the outcome? Does it really take 4-6 weeks? I was told that I'd receive something in writing from AMEX once the issue has been resolved; how long does that typically take? Thanks!

I have disputed charges with AMEX a couple of times and both times they have credited me back the charge and then sent me a letter. I can't remember the exact time but it was resolved within a month.

Thank you, goin2disneyagain! I guess I'll keep an eye on my AMEX statement to see if a credit appears.

I've disputed a charge through MC for non-receipt of product before. They sent me a letter explaining how it worked. The charge was immediately removed while they investigated the claim. If they decided against my claim, the charge would be reinstated. After about 6 weeks, I received a letter saying that they decided with my claim and that was that.

I disputed a charge, when a $3.00 latte became a $300.00 purchase ! I think the merchant had 6 weeks to produce the original slip, and if that didn't happen, or the charge was found to be wrong, within 2 weeks you get the credit. I of course got the credit.

Just today, DH called the cc company and asked why they were charging us a finance charge when there was no balance. They said I needed to let them know if we were going to pay it down to 0! Whatever. They did take away the charge...or else we would have cancelled it.

I have twice with Citi. Both times they were in my favor. I think it took either a month or less then a month to get the letter in the mail that said they ruled in my favor.

I onced disputed a charge with First USA, they were the WORST!!! It was along time ago, but I do remember they gave me some lame excuse why they couldn't refund my money. Thank goodness it wasn't for that much.

Good Luck!

Thanks, everyone! I'm so glad to hear so many positive reports. With the holiday weekend and all, I have a feeling that it might be a few weeks until I hear something. Thanks!! :)

I disputed a charge from USAir once, I can't remember the bank it was awhile ago. I had bought tickets for my mom and I and requested the senior citizen discount (she was over 65, it was allowed for senior & 1 companion). I got a confirmation showing the discounted price and printed it. However, I was charged the full price and when I went back online the receipt showed the full price. I called them and they said the fare I purchased was not eligible for the discount. I disputed it, sent copies of the original confirmation. They investigated and came back and declined my claim saying my dispute was with the vendor and they would not intervene.

Any time I've ever had a dispute and wanted charges removed, I had to "put it in writing" to the cc company. It was always taken care of within a 30 day period. :thumbsup2

we were in Hawaii on a family vacation there were 13 of us and we all but my parents were going whale watching-my sister put it on her CC and we were going to pay her back once we got home.
then my parents decided they wanted to go so sister called and added them.

the day we get to the dock they tell us they dont charge the CC until the day so if all wanted to pay our own instead of my sisters CC we could so we all did that.

My sister gets her bill and she was charged and we all get our CC statements and we were all charged!!(so we were charged twice for 13 people!! quite a balance!!)

My sister tried to dispute but the CC wouldnt do anything--so she asked me to help since Im pretty good at getting things to do through--
since she didnt have much luck with CC company I went through the whale watching co and I got a wonderful girl and between the 2 of us got all the paper work I had to fax everyone CC statement showing the charges and explaining what was right and wrong and my sister got the refund!!

so it had a happy ending but was alittle hassle but it worked out

my sister also didnt have to pay the disputed amount until everything was worked out so in the end she didnt have to pay it

From my experience in working in a credit card company: If you purchased something on line, you had to allow 30 days for the item to arrive. If it did not arrive then you could dispute it. You had to do it in writing. At that point in time, they would issue a temporary credit while the charge was being researched, and usually the merchant would be contacted and the issue would be resolved within 2-6 weeks. Usually sooner than later. If it was under $20 dollars, it was resolved IMMEDIATELY. It costs more than that to dispute the charge.
