We are flying in the day before our crusie and have booked an extra package with DCL to stay at the Hyatt at the airport (a standard room). Has anyone else stayed there? Does anyone recommend this? :thewave:

Yeah, its a nice hotel, the rooms are big and they have a pool. You can shop and eat at the airport. -Stephanie

Best thing about the Hyatt is that it's only a short walk from luggage pick up, and you leave your luggage outside your room the next morning for DCL transportation to pick up. Then you go to the lobby, meet the DCL reps and board the bus. It's a really NO HASSLE way to go...especially if your flight is late like ours was and you get to MCO at 3:30 in the morning! :(

You're going in January??? Definitely fly in the night before. We stayed at the Hyatt this past January-- the only "bad" thing about our room was, it faced the rooftop & runway. I had to turn to the right to see the planes/runway. The noise didn't bother me, just the view of that great rooftop!!... you can ask for a lobby view if you want. We also booked a "day room" for our return day as our plane didn't leave until after 3pm. We asked for a lobby view then and got it. It was fun to people watch from our balcony.

We walked around the airport shops and went to Chili's for dinner, found a Krispy Kreme doughnut counter for breakfast the next morning. It was great to just put your luggage outside your door by 8:30 a.m. and then see them in your cabin later that day.

Be sure to mention you're on the Disney Cruise when you're checking in , they give you a package explaining luggage, check in times, etc.

I definitely vote for the Hyatt. The accessiblity and ease are the best points... A nice hotel is also helpful! You can't go wrong!

You might want to check the pillows when you get to the room. Ours were extremely large and uncomfortable. I would have asked for different ones if it hadn't been 4:00 am!

Love it!

Got into MCO early, checked into Hyatt, dropped off luggage, quick wash up, down to Alamo, pick up a car and off shopping we went!

Then when my "Sis'' and her husband came into MCO, picked them up and we all headed to Jiko's for Dinner! We were suppose to have a quick DisMeet but unfortanately got held up at Jiko's and ran late.

Then it was drop everybody off, return car and try to sleep! Oh yeah there was the repacking of the stuff we bought at the mall!LOL

You leave the luggage out side the door and all you have to worry about is your carryon!

Have Fun! It will be a blast!

We stayed there before our cruise in 2003. What has been said about the ease and convienience is true. They also have Disney Cruise luggage pick-up and they had a place for the cruisers to meet also.
Having said that, it is expensive. This year we stayed at the Embassy Suites. Though you have to take a short shuttle ride back and forth, the cost is half as much. Also, you can take advantage of the all-you-can-drink reception(free) from 5-7 and the breakfast buffet(also free) the next morning.
I guess it just depends on what you think is more important.

Meshee, how much was the package through DCL to add the room? We've booked the Hyatt for our 9/25 cruise, but directly with the hotel. I was wondering if it was cheaper through Disney

allears I would also be interested in knowing what you paid directly to Hyatt for a room, we paid $180. We Booked our cruise with DCL a few months ago. After reading all the post about flying in to MCO the night before, we decided to call DCL and ask if it was possible to fly in the night before but book our own hotel. They said the only way we could fly in the night before was if we added the $180 Hyatt package to our cruise.

We have also stayed at the Hyatt twice before our cruises. Yes, we also paid approx $180(booked on the internet), but as we didnt arrive until 18.30, it was great not to have find other transportation to another hotel after a very long journey. Just enough time to grab a quick bite in the food hall, shower and have a good night's rest before picking up the Disney Bus - which is only a few steps from the Hotel. After travelling for 15hrs, the less we need to walk - the better. It IS more expensive than some places, but having paid $1000's for the flight/cruise, the extra few $s is worth it in our opinion.

By the way..................CMMom...............we found extra pillows in the closet.................the following morning! Guess we were too tired to worry about the big pillows......... we could have slept on a washing line!

We also booked a "day room" for our return day as our plane didn't leave until after 3pm.

May I ask how much you paid for a "day room?" This may work for us AFTER our cruise since we will have some hours to spare.

Thanks!

I paid $60 for the day room, they asked us what time we'd need, I figured 10am-2pm, we arrived at 9:30 a.m. and they gave us a room immediately.
Also, I booked our original room on the internet and I only paid $124 (plus taxes).

I think that's about what we paid as well, with the AAA discount factored in (which also brought with it the free breakfast buffet on Saturday morning).

To us, the extra cost was worth not having to schlep bags to and from another location and the convenience of staying right where you need to be the next morning.

As Bobandlee says, it depends on what's more important to you personally.

Meshee,

I booked on line with a AAA discount, so our room is $135.00. Sounds like an okay deal. I guess the extra expense from Disney is to include the baggage handling.

We got the senior rate of $99 a night, because my mom is traveling with us. The senior rate is for those age 62 or over. But it doesn't come with the breakfast like the AAA rate does. I booked directly with the hotel.

We are cruising on Sept. 25, 2004, too, and will be flying in the night before and staying at the Hyatt. Please join our thread on the Cruise Meets forum and post on the list so you can join us for a Dismeet on the Magic.

Thanks for the info. Pauline:wave2:

SSeeing as I will be traveling with 3 children this sounds like the most convenient place to spend the night. I really don't think it would be worth it to me to save a bit of money staying somewhere else and have to keep schlepping our luggage around.

o, if I book this on my own and still use Disney transportation to and from port (which I haven't decided on yet), does that mean they won't move my luggage from my room to the Disney shuttle bus? Do I have to book through Disney for that service?

No matter who books the Hyatt for you and what transportation you use to get to the port Disney will pick your luggage up for you in the morning and you will next see it in your cabin. I cruised in March and this worked great for us!!:D
