I was thinking I would use travelers cheques on my trip to Disney this summer, but I'm concerned if "everyone" takes them - meaning all the small cart places that would sell ice creams, and stuff like that. I think all the stores and restuarants take them. We are driving from St. Louis, MO so hopefully everyone along the way will take them too. I don't usually travel with them, but last year DH lost cash in the World.

Its also a way for me to "save". I live down the street from a local AAA office, so I can just walk in and buy the cheques. Also (FYI) if you are a member and you walk in, there is no fees and of course no shipping cost. I plann to buy $50 a pay period and $450 next Monday.

Thanks for any info and have a wonderful Disney Day!!!!

Never....carts take them. Everyone takes them. They treat them like cash and give you change.

For people who don't have access to a DS and like the Disney Dollars idea - travellers checks may be another way to stash cash - particularly if you can get them for free.

Love them :bounce:

Just like cash but a little more secure

Get VISA ones FREE at AAA if you are a member

As far as Disney World -- every one there takes them absolutely no problem never blink an eye.

I will say though that on our drive down from Illinois we have encountered gas stations that will not take them. I usually use them for WDW only and use cash or cc for the trip down and back.

We've never had a problem, use them every trip, because it's a lot safer than carrying cash.

Will every place in Universal and Sea World accept them too?

Used them at Universal no problem. I remember even using one to pay for a meal at Mythos.. without a problem.

Used them at the Walmart on John Young Parkway as well, no problem either.

Yes.

That's the best way to travel in my book! I'm always paranoid about losing my money or having it stolen..

I usually get them in $100 denominations.. Then if I cash one for say a $25 purchase, I'm left with $75 cash in my purse - just in case you run into the rare place that won't accept them..

I also found on our last trip to WDW that I spent a LOT less money that way! I came home with like $700 that was clearly earmarked for spending money on the trip..:teeth:

I can also report that if you happen to lose them/have them stollen they are super easy to get replaced (as long as you have their numbers). Last time I had any they were two part no carbon paper and you were told as soon as you sign them seperate and store in dif. places. I also photo copy them and leave a copy with my mother (who is very easy to reach by phone). I have had to replace travellers checks twice in my life. In NYC I just went to an AmEx office and had new ones issued on the spot. In Itialy they delivered them to my hotel in less than 12 hours. It was not even a bit of trouble.

We purchase travelers checks for every trip!!!!!!!!!! They are especially comvenient at Walt Disney World....we have never had any problems/concerns using them!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I use them every year and never had any problem! Love the security they give me, I don't have to worry about losing them. Just remember to have your Id on hand and if you want someone else to be able to use them, have them go to the bank you get them from. They can sign some too. That way you don't have to always be the one standing at the checkout! :teeth:

I pay for a lot of items with travelers checks in florida. Good for groceriy stores, etc, too.

I rmember being at a walmart in Fl and them taking my check without i.d. Come home to MN, and they want i.d. at the Walmart here when I used my leftover checks there. Go figure.

herc.

I loved traveler's check's. I either get them bank and AAA office because they is free there. I never have a problem with.

Even at the baseball park we take traveler's check.
