Bought it but didn't use it on my dog yet. I'm hearing way too many bad things about it. She used to use frontline, but with it being so expensive, I thought I'd switch to Hartz, but I'm not sure I will use it.
Anyone use Hartz and did you have a problem with your dog after you used it? I've been reading so many stories of dogs having seizures and even dying!!!

no way would I risk using it. There was a lady on the boards a couple of years ago that used a Hartz flea dip on her cats, one died and the other lived but took a lot of vet care to save it. I've just read too many negatives to use their products.

Don't use it.

It is not safe (as you already know).

Also, the thing to know about is that it is not at all the same kind of medicne as frontline. It is an older pesticide type medication. Basically, the Hartz people have made a mint by packaging it in those tiny squeeze tubes to fool you into thinking it is like frontline.

Frontline (and the other meds you get from the vet) really work. As long as you use them, your pets and home will have NO fleas, because it makes the fleas be unable to reproduce (or destroys the eggs or something). Hartz just kills the fleas tht are already hanging out on your pet. That means it will decrease your fleas temporarily and then they will just come right back, because the eggs were unaffected.

Basically, it doesn't work. So not only are you endangering your pet, you're also throwing money down the drain for a product that doesn't work. So bite the bullet and buy the expensive stuff :)

NO FREAKIN WAY!! I worked at a vet clinic and seen MANY dogs come in, having seizures from this stuff!!! Take it back and get your money back!!!

I say no to using it, but this season, it seems like Frontline is very sucky as keeping off the fleas, evenour vet switched our dogs.

I didn't care about the expense, but got the Hartz stuff to save a trip to the vet. Kitty's hair fell out in big, giant clumps. It turns out that hair loss is just a side effect, but after everything I read and heard, I'm not using the Hartz stuff again. I also didn't like the giant clumps of hair everywhere.

I'm back with the Revolution stuff from the vet. Works fine and very little hair loss. :)

Why would you want to do that to your pet to save a few dollars that in the long run could cost you much more in vet bills or even the loss of your pet? It doesn't make sense.

I have used it with no problems on both the dog and the cats. When we were having a HUGE flea problem last fall, I brought the boxes of the OTC stuff I had on hand to the vet so she could see what I was using. She said that Frontline had not been working. She looked at the ingredients on the boxes I had and told me to use the Sargeant's brand I believe because the ingredient was different from the others (so that one might work). She also said Hartz had reformulated their product because of the prior problems.

Even with that, nothing was working, so I did some more research online and decided to try Advantage. That worked and we became flea free! Apparently the fleas were becoming resistant to the ingredients in the other products.
