Crankyshank ~ I am in TOTAL agreement!! I don't see why they can't keep the kids, yes, they are getting older, but so are the characters in the book. And I had the same thought about those 30 something actors playing HS kids. Give me a break! If they can get away with it, surely 17-18 year olds can play a 14-15 year old on screen! I just can't see anyone else being Harry. Daniel Radcliffe IS Harry Potter. He, he....do I sound like a ? My DBF says nobody would care if they replaced the actors. Shyaaaaaaa! Right!
Marcie - Michael Gambon plays Dumbledore. Pretty good likeness to Richard Harris, although in reality the two really looked nothing alike. Amazing what a talented makeup artist can do:
I'm not at all familiar with his work but some of my Brit friends are and say he is terrific.
I believe that I read somewhere that part of it has to do with the difference in the school system in England. They go on to University at a younger age than our kids do. When you think about it, those kids have a great deal of money. Maybe they want to do something else. I know most kids here want to go on to collage with kids their own age. The non-principal parts could be played by anyone. They are basically extras. They have casted for those roles here. All you needed to try out was a valid passport. While minors, they are supplied schooling while on a shoot. In this country, teachers are only supplied until the child actor is 18.
It will be interesting to see what happens. I love the current cast and would be thrilled to see them continue. I also understand that they might want to do something else.
I also hope they keep the same actors. Like people have said, they're only a couple of years older than the kids in the book. It's also nice to see them grow up from movie to movie. I don't think I would enjoy the other sequels if they changed the major characters.
Although, it could have to do more with money than with their ages. They all signed contracts to do the first three movies, now their contracts are up, so they can try to get a much bigger salary. Maybe the production company doesn't want to pay them, so they'll just get a bunch of no names to sign a contract for the next three. Just a thought.
I just can't wait until June, HP 3 was my favorite book out of the series so far. So, I'm anxious to see it on screen I can't wait to see how they do the dementors

Good point! I hadn't thought of that.
Feralpeg has a good point, also. Even though I love the HP movies and don't think that they can make anything equal to them if they replace the main characters, I do understand that the kids might want to pursue their educations.
