|Thanks for the Wizarding :wizard: info, that sounds very fun!!

Part of the reason I love the movies (such a Mom reason) is seeing the "kids" grow up! I especially love Emma!

I told DH that HP is in IMAX, so we're trying to decide between IMAX, North York drive in or the regular old AMC - maybe Saturday or Sunday since we're going to the Jays game tom. nite.

Please keep the reviews coming!

IMAX Harry Potter isn't out until the end of the month.

Just got back from taking the kids and friends. The theatre was busy but not packed as 3 screens were showing it. This may be an unpopular opinion. I did not think it was great and did not think they did a good job with the ending to intrigue me enough to want to read the last book. We have all managed to read all the previous books prior to the movies. Found parts of it actually a bit boring. However, loved the Magic Shop the twins own! But felt it was good not great.:confused3

I never thought about the movies encouraging people to read the next book. I always thought it was each book that encouraged people to read the next one. To me, the books are their own entity and the movies are their own as well.

I guess if you haven't had any desire to read the last book so far and find out what happens at the end of the entire series and if Harry actually defeats Voldemort, one movie isn't going to really do it. You probably wouldn't be classified as a real Harry Potter fanatic, lol.

Saw it yesterday - as I predicted we had no problems getting a decent seat for the 11:30am show - theater was pretty full but not packed!

I left the theatre feeling like the movie really hadn't ended - the end was sure lacking - dh and I both looked at eachother and said 'is that it??'. I really expected them to do a much better job on the fight scene at the end and around the funeral. I also thought there would be more to the romance between Harry and Ginny then there was. This one was ok but definatly not my fav. Makes me wonder what they are going to leave out of the last movie(s) now!!

Glad to hear it wasn't just me that felt I didn't get my money's worth!! Firstly, for a 2.5 hour movie, there should be some sort of ending that leaves me satisfied! Not even close. I did like the humour in it and had it ended better, I'd have given it a "good" review but honestly, I thought it was "so-so" at best.

DAMO....disagree.....if a movie is made based on bestselling books, the movies should entice young audiences to read the books to find out how the story develops. DD 12 saw Twilight and immediatley had to have all 4 books. I would say most of the HP audience will not rush out and buy the next book based on this movie. It just didn't leave you on the edge of your seat......

I would say the vast majority of the audience has already read the last book. I can see your point about the movie not enticing the people, who have only seen the movies, to see the next one but the vast majority of people who go to see this particular Harry Potter movie have most likely already read the entire series. That was the only point I was trying to make. Rowling certainly doesn't have to depend on the movie to entice the audience to read the next book. (edited to add that my daughter says that if she hadn't read the Twilight series before seeing the movie, she would never had read the books. She says it was one of the worst movies she had ever seen.)

If this was the first movie, like Twilight, I could see why the ending would be so important but the job of this movie was to set up so many things for the final two movies that hadn't really been discussed in the previous movies. I can see the next movie starting with Dumbledore's funeral however apparently it isn't going to.

None of the movies, IMHO, can hold a candle to any of the books and I wonder if I hadn't read the books if I would even have seen any of the movies.

As an interesting tidbit, none of the actors of Dumbledore, Snape and Voldemort have read any of the books and the actress that plays Luna says she has stopped correcting the director because she figures she was getting annoying. She's the expert (other than the author of course).

LOL...I see your passion for HP. My Neice loves the books and saw the movie and says she is going to see it again.

I guess my opinion is only validated as someone who knows very little about HP - book or movies - and who felt a bit cheated on a storyline and resolution with this movie. Perhaps you can PM and tell me what happened to them all - LOL.

Plus, 2.5 hours is long to sit with 2 8 year olds. We had to do the bathroom twice and they were restless. I am sure the fans will love it but we did not.

Ya, it really wasn't a movie for 8 year olds. If you really want to know what happens, go to Wikipedia. They have a great summary!!! And you probably felt cheated by the resolution because there wasn't one. This movie was meant to set up the next two. There are a whole bunch of new events that will take place that needed a bit of background.

I'm a fan who was hooked in by the movies... I have never read the books at all! Now after seeing this latest movie on Sunday afternoon, I feel I really need to get the last book to see how this all plays out. My son's friend though, told me I need to start reading at book 1 and go throught them in order! I have the books (all but the last one) as I got them for my kids to try and encourage reading when the series was really hot.

Now I feel like I want to go find all the books and start reading from the start! :lmao:

I enjoyed the movie, but I agree it wasn't as enticing as some have been...and it was a lot darker than any of the others!

I totally agree. Start with book one. The books have a very different feel and a huge character involvment that you don't get in the movies. There are also a ton of details left out in the movies that you really should know about before reading the last books.

I voted movie #1, and it's the same with the books....meeting Harry as a young boy, living under the stairs, travelling with him to Hogwarts as he meets Ron & Hermione on the train, nothing beats that for me. All of the books are good but the first has such a special place in my heart.
