Harry potter ride not for large riders

No its not...so I'll choose to go to the parks that make an effort to be accessible.

You missed out the "for me" bit at the end.

You claim that parks should create rides for all guests however this is clearly impossible. There has to be a maximum size. Disney doesnt create rides for ALL sizes. It just so happens that you fit into the size that can get on their rides. So stuff anyone else that is bigger than you.

That is exactly why I will not go to Universal. That and they don't have any good rides that are fun. Going upside down and not having your feet on the ground is not fun, it is torture.

Ha Ha Ha! That`s the best thing I`ve read all day. Thanks for the laugh.

Make an effort? I'm confused as to why they should make an effort? If they make the rides bigger then the average person is A-waiting in a longer line because there are less cars and B- put in danger because they are not safe in the larger seat. So it's ok for them to make them bigger because you want to ride but you don't care about the smaller people who might get injured?:confused3
Either way you are making a judgment about something NO ONE knows yet. I'm sure the ride will accommodate most.

ITA. I've seen people of extreme size, largely obese, whatever term you want to use, and there is no way they can fit on the majority of rides, even at fat-friendly Disney.

I agree there does need to be a limit, especially with thrill rides. The seats cannot be made so large to accommodate hugely fat people that folks of average or slim builds are not adequately restrained.

I remember as a kid back in the early 1980s going on BTMRR with my then-obese father. The lap bar secured him in, but I was flailing all over the place. Scared the bejeezus out of me, I tell you! If I wasn't clutching on for dear life, I am sure I could have wiggled my way out while we were in motion. Not really all that safe.

Same thing happend to me in ToT when it was just a lapbar - it was a true thrill ride then. Its hard to believe ToT is 16 yrs old... :scared1:

So even if it doesnt live up to my expectations I will remember Prince Caspian and Narnia and know it could have been worse.

The Narnia attraction at DHS is one of the worst I've ever been in. Not as bad as what they did to Alien Encounters but that was a modification while the train wreck at Narnia was actually planned out.

I loved Alien Encounters. Was very dissapointed that Stich took it over!!

You know...I wasn't gonna post to this thread with a ten foot pole (no one calls me Twiggy ;)). But from the first time I read these posts, all I could think of was ToT. I had the same experience with DS(then 10) and plus sized SIL. It was truly unsafe for him, uncomfortable for her (lapbar) and all I could do to keep him secure.

Bottom line, folks...everyone cannot be accommodated and safety should be the only concern.

:scared1:

I hate coasters and I so wanted to ride this ride. Now I am worried!! I may have to send DH on first.

If you're hesitant at all, that is an excellent plan. From the fansites that were taken on a tour of the area, the only thing Universal is promising with HPatFJ is that you'll come back alive and unharmed. Everything else is fair game based upon the warning posters posted through out the early part of the line.

If I cannot ride this ride we will not return to Universal again. I am the HP fan and they took a coaster and rethemed it and the prime ride may not be for me.:sad2:

Bah - even if there WAS no 5 minute robo-coaster ride, I'd still be thrilled to walk around a mock-up of Hogsmede and tour the Hogwarts castle. And check out the souvenirs! :cool1:

If they've got dancing Beauxbaton students like in the Ellen video, and a frog choir, and a wand-choosing process, and cauldron cakes, that'll be the icing on the cake - literally!

I've even got tickets to see that travelling museum show in Toronto! No rides at all, but still very cool to see all the HP stuff up close.

Because, you know, we ARE HP fans.

And even then, we're still not planning to just charge across the park, visit the HP stuff, and leave. We'd also like to see the Marvel themed areas, and Jurassic park, and Seuss Island and all the rest.

I just found out some disturbing news about the New Forbidden Journey of Harry Potter attraction at IOA.

The restraints are said to be coaster style Over The Shoulder (OTS) restraints. I’ve got a fair warning for all our larger readers out there… if your too big to fit on Hulk or Dueling Dragons, or require the “Big Boy” seats on those rides, there is a very good chance you will not fit into Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey. I’ve been told that the sensors on Potter’s OTS require it to go down quite snug over your body before giving the green light, which is going to disappoint quite a few Potter fans.

This ride is the centerpiece of a major expansion for the park. I find it hard to comprehend they would design it to not be inclusive for all. As a large male with a big upper body I will be canceling my trip to Universal and staying at Disneyworld. I CAN FIT ON EVERY RIDE AT DISNEYWORLD...NEW ONES, OLD ONES, You name it. Universal has several attractions not designed for the ever expanding masses. ( Please spare me the lecture on weight in our society today)

Just goes to show a company that as a priority on family experiences like Disney will always outclass upstarts like Universal.

Ummm...my aunt (size 26) couldn't ride the roller coaster ride at disney quest.

We will see it but the question is will we return. There is so little I can ride and now a ride that I have been wanting to ride may not be for me.

Well... the ride may not be for me, either. I get nauseous very easily and anti-nausea medications make me barf. I wish there was something I could do about it, but there isn't. No gym or diet or anything will fix my inner ear, or make Gravol work for me.

So I will probably send my family on the ride first, before I decide whether to risk it. If I can't ride - so be it. I'll still have some 45 minutes plus worth of castle touring under my belt. A five minute robo-coaster ride is nothing to me in comparison to that.

And I certainly don't blame Universal in the slightest for not making most of their rides gentle floating boat cruises through the scenery, even if that's what my gut would prefer!

But I do understand if you visit and then decide "it was fun, but there's no reason to go back". It just seems odd to me that some folks (not necessarily you) are deciding before they even go that that's how they're going to react.

Hey folks, some good news. ScottInNY over at OrlandoUnited has just posted that larger seats are in the works and they expect them to be ready by December. I think you can take this one to the bank. I hope I don't need one but as my mother once said, you never know what you're going to do in this life. You really don't. Your thyroid could go kaflooey tomorrow or you could find yourself pregnant with triplets . . . anyway, by the end of the year, the Wizarding World will be happily open to anyone over 48 inches.
I hope that everyone has read this....

All of this fuss over a ride that hasn't even opened yet. I think that some people just look for things to be upset about.

Forgive me if i sound rude, but why should US accommodate me because I make unhealthy life choices. I'm overweight size 16 at only 5'7and while obviously I'm not ashamed of it I see no reason to be accommodated for it. I need to lose the weight and if not being able to fit onto a ride that I have been excited for for the last year is what encourages me SO BE IT!

Also I don't understand why people feel this need to CONSTANTLY compare US and Disney. It really is apples to oranges. I love Disney. It's nostalgic and family fun. I love Universal because it's exciting and thrilling. I happen to be someone who likes BOTH of those things. Some people don't and that's fine. Doesn't make either better than the other.

Universal is getting my money this year because I want to see HP but in a few years Disney will get my money when it opens it's expansion of Fantasyland.

Great points, especially your comments on comparing US & Disney. It is possible to love them both.

I think it's interesting the OP has yet to answer the question of where he supposed saw this story in the first place...he hasn't answered the question on either thread he started on the same subject.
