Harry Potter: Halloween = Not His Best Day

I read a book (and gave it away so I don't have the exact title or anything) that listed the 'rules' for HP. It was published after book 4 so some rules have been broken since (I think JK read it and decided to change things up!) but most hold true.

Hermione is always right-unless it has to do with emotional things like love.

Ron is always wrong-unless he is joking.

If a character is interrupted while saying something, then what they were about to say is a big clue to the major or minor plot lines. Hagrid gets interrupted several times throughout the series. Sirius as well.

If JK repeats something, then it is very important and you should really pay attention. For instance, in Chamber of Secrets there are a ton of references to 'spidery' things in descriptions. Then later you meet Aragog. Or in the whole series vampires pop up when talking about Snape and then in the 6th book...well you know. (I was disappointed after what I thought was a big build-up and the big moment was just Snape turning into a bat.)

I think there were other things mentioned in this book I read. I would really like to look at it again. I read an update later on and it wasn't nearly as enlightening. It was also dead wrong about Harry and his father. They suggested that Lupine was actually James.

Another cool bit is that the book pointed out a bunch of references to classical literature. Reading this hints book made it much more interesting to re-read all the Harry Potters.

DH and I listen to the books on CD nearly every night. We are listening to 6 now, in anticipation of the movie. I imagine we have listened or read the whole series more than 20 times. I think listening helps me notice something new every time. And after years of reading aloud to children, I really find it luxurious to listen to someone else read to me! I am a Jim Dale fan!

i love jim dale's version. i have them all on my ipod. i tried listening to the americian - can't remember his name but just coudnt' get into his voice.

Jim makes me close my eyes and imagine being there as he reads.

i'll have to get listening to book 6 now that the movie is coming out soon

I'm with you; I think she loved Snape (I really think she loved all of her characters), but there was no way Harry would listen to Snape. Seeing his memories made Harry understand what he had to do. And made him realize (and us too) what sacrifices Snape made. And obviously Harry honored him by giving his son Severus as a middle name. (that part always makes me cry)

ok - maybe it's not in it for a kid/teenager to understand but people remember what they want to remember - must be true in the wizzarding world to - you can ask a room full of people what they remember about something and they will all have something different to remember.

what if snape's memory wasnt' quite accurate? it could have been that harry didn't believe the memory

or are these things true memories because they are pulled from deep inside the brain?

wish i could have done that in school LOL

I disagree; I think she loved Snape too. His was the biggest sacrifice she made in the books. It was his death that enabled Harry to know how to defeat Voldemort and it was his memories that gave Harry the strength to do it. If Snape has simply told Harry what had to be done, do you think Harry would have believed him? Or even stopped to listen?

I didn't say that JKR hated Snape. I said she hated that fans loved him. There's a difference. In many of her interviews she's commented on how Snape is a very unlikeable person and doesn't understand why he has a fan following.

So does Tonk's parent's raise the son??

I thought by making some one a godparent was that they would be the one to take care of the child if anything happened to the parents?? I know he's a little young at 17/18 to be taking care of the kid. But it seemed to confuse me when I read the epilogue.

yes - that's how it used to happen but these days if a grandparent is till around and capible of raising the baby i wouldn't think it would stand up in court that the godparent gets him.

i think now a days it's just a way of honouring someone.

i wouldn't dream of taking my godson away from his grandparents if something happened to his mother. now if they couldn't raise him i would but that's not the case.

How did you know that??? the name or just that Bill is the oldest? cause I don't recall any one else being pregnant.

it's also a french name and bill is the only one who married a french girl.

stands to reason that it's bills daughter

i think there are a lot of people who hated him in the beginning but when they started getting the information they started liking him. well not hating him. it's hard to like snape when he's so mean to harry.

like with draco, i hoped there would be some redeeming quality in him and that dumbledore wasn't a daft old man who was snowed by him.

i gave a lot of credit to dumbledore that if he trusted snape there must be a reason for it.

it was dumbledore who shocked the heck out of me. i had a hard time accepting that he was willing to lead harry to slaughter for the greater good.

so dh is sleeping, dd is sleeping, i'm sitting watching you've got mail for the millionth time searching the net for interesting things on Harry when i came across this article.

http://www.totalfilm.com/features/12-things-they-cut-from-harry-potter

12 things they cut from the movies or really that should have been in.

so after reading i came up with my own that has bee bugging me since the movie came out.

in OOP #5 it really bugged me that there really wasn't much mention of Haggrid's trip to the forest with....whats her name - agrr the giant teacher from goblet.

anyways he does make some mention of talking to the giants and supposes that they remember dumbledore but would it really have been so hard to pull the dialogue right from the book???

i know they couldn't film it (though it would have been cool to see) since it's really from Harry's eyes and you don't see too much of stuff when Harry's not around but why wasn't there mention of the gifts, how they had to present several to get the trust going then the huge fight and slaughter then starting over again. why wasn't the other teacher mentioned?

little things like that tick me off that they were left out

i know some things don't make the story move forward but this would have given a better understanding of the giants mindset. and unless they cut the giants out of the 7th movie you'll have a better understanding of them during the huge fight scene.

there are more - what are yours?

I didn't like snape until I saw Alan Rickman's portrayal. Oh man! I love him!
Same for professor trelawney - she got on my nerves in the book, but seeing the way emma thompson portrays her made me like her.
I can't wait to see more of helena bonham carter as bellatrix. I just hope it won't make me like her! :lmao:
Even ralph fiennes can't make me like voldemort, however! ;)

I love Alan Rickman, and while he has the Snape voice.. I just don't see his look as Snape. I always pictured Snape as tall and nearly skin-and-bones, long greasy hair, probably just below his shoulder.

I just finished re-reading HBP. I didn't realize just how little you know at the end of that book and how much DH gives until now. How on Earth did I wait two years for DH?! :rotfl:

Harry Potter, the Musical: http://www.youtube.com/user/StarKidPotter

HP the Musical was written and produced in early 2009 by a bunch of college kids/recent grads through a non-profit student-run theatre company. It was a free show that ran for three nights (five performances) and will never be done again... but luckily we taped it so everyone can get a chance to enjoy its magical silliness. The songs were written by Darren Criss (who plays Harry Potter) and AJ Holmes (who plays piano in the band). The script was written by Matt Lang (who also directed the show), Nick Lang (who assistant directed and made the dragon puppet) and Brian Holden (who was busy working at a real job while the rest of us were making a goofy play). The full credits (including actor and tech credits) are at the end of the last video.

HP the Musical was a completely non-for-profit show made by Potter-fans for Potter-fans. All of us involved love the books immensely (and strongly encourage everyone to read them if you haven't) and it is with the utmost admiration that we celebrate and poke fun at them with this musical adaptation.

Act 1 Part 3: "What the hell is a Hufflepuff?"

I love that Draco is played by a girl. :rotfl2:

I can think of one from PoA. One that really annoys me is the ending, when Harry receives the broom from Sirius. I don't know why, but that scene drives me crazy!
