Hi everyone, my daughter is planning a Harry Potter Party for her 11th Birthday. She is a huge HP fan, and we are seeing the movie then coming back to the house for a meal in the Great Hall (our dining room) and a sleepover. Can someone send some ideas or recipies? Any thoughts on decorations are welcome. Thanks.

As the previous poster said, check mugglenet.com for recipes, they have everything from butterbeer to rock cake. Also, to complete the theme for the meal go with traditional British foods, such as fish and chips or cottege pie, scones for breakfast ect.

Also purchase some of the candy for snacks. Things such as fudge flies, Bertie Botts beans, Acid Pops ect are all available for sale, just google Harry Potter Candy and you'll find lots of places that sells them.

As for decorations, well for a sleepover, nothing better than turning the living room into a mini Gryffindor common room. Get a cork board that doubles as a message board on it post things such as "Gryffindor quidditch practice 3:30 Thursday" "Dueling Club Gryffindor vs Ravenclaw Great Hall Friday 7:30" ect. Buy cheap burgandy/scarlet fabric to cover the sofas, chairs ect(also great for keeping spills in check). Find the Gryffindor Crest online and print onto paper for framing to hang, or even on iron transfers for the fabric. Take old books and make new covers on the computer for them, things such Potion Making for the Beginner, Charms Year 1 ect to sit out as decoration. Also something that can be additional gifts for your daughter if she doesnt already have them are you can purchase the books "Tales of Beedle The Bard, Magical Beasts and Where to Find Them, and Quidditch through the Ages to have around the room for them to read during the night. Set up a chess set, or use marbles for them to play "gobstones".

Ive planned quite a few Potter parties for both kids and adults. Really, the possibilites are endless.

These are all great ideas, you have given lots to work with. Now, to bake a cake... :)

I think your cake should look like this:

or, if you're up to it....from Ace of Cakes

what am AMAZING cake!! was there a HP episode? I must find it!

Your daughter's party will be such a blast! i want one now! haha. maybe i'll surprise my bride-to-be friend with a HP themed bridal shower! haha :wizard:

i'm sure you can find the HP soundtrack from the movies and have that playing in the background. the gryffindor common room idea is GREAT for a sleep over!!

do post pictures and happy birthday to your daughter!

OK, you have convinced me to do The Cake, yup, I am up for the Hogwarts Challenge. My daughter has just handed out the invitations (Hogwarts Admission Letters written on parchment, all addresed to the Childs name - address, closet under the stairs....) today. So I have some time to plan this challenge of a cake. I made the signs for the Great Hall Board, I have the Honeydukes bags of candy with EF Beans, Best Blowing Gum, etc. We have booked the movie theatre and I planned the "banquet" feast. I even have a Tri Wizard Cup table piece decoration. We have "classes" planned in Transfiguration (baking dough into cookies) and Potions (making baking soda bath salts). Always looking for more ideas. Thanks for all your help, can't wait.

Sounds like you have a great plan. My 12 yr. old son is also celebrating with an HP Party. I will be taking a group of friends to see the movie popcorn:: and then off to pizza hut. I ordered HP cupcakes from our local bakery and got the kiddos some HP shirts to wear to movie.

Can't wait to see your party pics:)
