Any Harold Lloyd fans out there? TCM is honoring him this month and his movies have been on. I think he's the funniest man (at least in his silent films.) Anyone else?

I've never seen his work. I know his name from Gershwin's 'Somebody Loves Me"....:D

Of course! When I was younger, one of the stations in the area ran a show called "Hooray for Harold Lloyd" which showed clips from his movies with a voice over narration.

I had just picked up an old magazine I had lying around the house and finally got around to reading this weekend and read an excellent article on him.

Then that very evening, I was channel surfing and saw one of his films. Since I had just read about him I decided that fate decreed I watch it!

I'll be sure now to check TCM's schedule. Thanks!

I had no idea he was such a good businessman or such a philanthropist.

Story from the Scottish Rite Journal

I do remember seeing a special on him several years back that showed a roller coaster/train track or something similar (and dangerous looking!) he had in his back yard.

For folks who don't know who he is, there is a clip of him that plays on one of the screens in Spaceship Earth right before you go through the room where the family is watching Ozzie and Harriet.

But the image that so often comes to mind is:

I was going to post something about this, but looks like I got beaten to the punch.

Last night TCM showed one of his films that had not been seen since it's original release (in the 20s!). It was pretty pristine! And amazing.

His granddaughter is also doing some of the intros which makes it all the more interesting.

And furthermore, did you know that he was missing several fingers on his right(?) hand. He often wore gloves to hide the fact. But what's amazing is the stunt work he did with this "disability"!

I'd encourage everyone to check out this often unheralded silent film comic genius!

Hooray for Harold Lloyd!
Thanks for posting this. My DH and I love these old movies.
We love Charlie Chaplain, too!

I LOVE Harold Lloyd! I think he's so awesome :) I missed seeing Safety Last though, ugh. Hopefully it'll be on TCM again soon.
