Hard Mattress

Last year we stayed at Coronado Springs and the mattress was so hard it was like sleeping on a board. Can you request a softer mattress or are they all the same?

I think they are all the same. Same deal at POFQ when I stayed. Mattress was like a rock. Maybe they are better now after the rooms were rehabed. Staying at AKL in Sept. and hoping their beds are a bit softer, but after a tiring day at the parks, I could sleep on the floor and not care!!! :cloud9: Maybe the "King Bed" rooms at the moderates are better? I hear the "Heavenly Beds" at the Swan are the best at WDW.

On our trip this past Feb/March, I slept like a baby at CBR. Loved VWL, but for me, the mattresses seemed hard. I thought the pullout was less rough & slept on that.
That said DH & DS16 thought mattresses @ VWL just fine-- ;)

any suggestions short of shipping a featherbed down or buying an air mattress?

heavenly beds at the swan?

(i personally love a rock hard mattress, so i am taking notes on where to stay! LOL!)

DH has started carrying a full sized eggcrate in his suitcase :earseek: he is often the only one getting a good night's sleep. Guess what I'm packing for next week??? ;)

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions. We usually have a king bed because we need a wheelchair accessible room and it has a king bed. I take an eggcrate with me and it helps a little but with the hard base mattress it is still uncomfortable for DD. If I called directly to the hotel, do you think they could help or would it be just too much to request ... a different mattress.

We stayed at CSR this past Thanksgiving. The rooms were redone and the matress were definately different from previous stays. I don't know if they were pillowtop or something like it. But I remember them being really comfortable.
We sleep on a waterbed at home, and when we go on vacation, the matresses are a bid deal.

Just back from Pop and the matress was awful! It would keep us from staying there again.

We just got back from the VWL and BC- I have to say, BC mattress was a lot better. We stayed at the Dolphin back in 2004. OMG! That was my Christmas gift that year. A memory foam bed with the best of sheets, down accessories. A very good investment. You can even buy the actual Heavenly Bed off the website. I was told that the Dolphin is the only Sheraton with these exact beds because it is actually a Westin feature and they wanted the same bed in the Swan (Westin) and Dolphin (Sheraton). My DH kept asking me this trip why I didn't book at the Dolphin for the bed.

AKL beds weren't just hard, you could push down with your hand and feel every hard metal spring coil. Plus the sheets were practically thread bare.
After having just spent the previous 4 nights at the Swan, with those fantastic heavenly beds, we didn't sleep at all the first night. We were so tired the second night, we slept ok.

DH says never again.
We are going in Oct, and have booked POR , Swan is going for 330 for parts of the time. Hoping for a better rate so we can switch, same for December trip. Swan is it for us!

We spent the first 2 nights at the Mariott near Universal , and those beds were fine. Also Hampton Inn on the way down were fine.
Those AKL beds were just plain bad.

We will also never stay at the POP again because of the extremely hard mattresses. Usually that would not bother us because we are so tired from being at the parks all day-but these were like sleeping on rocks! I don't recall ever having any problems at the All Star Movies so we are staying there again instead when we go in September.

Are the beds at The Poly, GF, and CR more comfortable than AKL and WL? I know they all are deluxes but you spend more money per night at the first 3 and just wondering if you get better beds and linens. (I guess I should include YC and BC in the first group also) :wizard:

GF & YC are pillow topped, I kow because DH strips the bed to put on his egg crate. The EC is a full so I usually don't get any of the benefits of it. THe pillow top ones seem a little more comfy but I bit the bullet and got my own egg crate for this trip to the POFQ. I'm unfamiliar with the mattresses at the moderates.

We spent 8 days at AKL and 2 at CSR this past May. CSR had wonderfully comfortable pillowtop mattresses. AKL seemed pretty comfortable, too. I've never noticed a problem with beds at AKL, and I'm pretty picky about my mattress.

GF has the best mattress I have slept on at WDW! I even commented to my DH about how great it was! :earsgirl:

Hi There!

I think the beds are firm as well.

We ship down an eggcrate mattress ahead of time to the Resort. I usually buy the eggcrate at Target here in Omaha. I then have the box to ship souvies home in.

There's also a Target and Wal-Mart about 20 minutes from Disney, we have stopped from time to time on our way to the resort from the airport (when I forget to ship the eggcrate down ahead of time).

The eggcrate has made such a HUGE difference for us. We can get a good night sleep and then hit the parks full speed ahead the next day.
