Hi,
I just need to tell you this just to see what you would do.
I work as an lsa in a special needs(autistic)chool. I love my job, even though it is so mentally draining! But i just love the kids!
last week we have heard that the school along with most other schools in the county are over budget, this has resulted in the head having to make the decision that by the end of may, staff need to be made redundant either voluntary or not, the other alternative is job share. We as lsa's are on a pitiful wage as it is . my hours at the moment are just over 31 3/4 , i can if i want go to 19hrs= 3 days which i would love to do, but financially it might not be worth it. I live over half an hour from the school, diesal each week is around £20.
I know its my decision at the end of the day, but would you cut your hours down , or stay as you are??

If i could afford to and more importantly wanted to, i would cut me hours down.

For me, I would have to say that if I really loved the job, the decision would have to be based on finances. If I could afford it, I would cut down my hours.

What a hard decision to make :( I wish you all the best with what you decide.

Jeanette, a hard desicion, if I could afford to work less hours I would, but of course it all depends on finances, good luck in whatever you decide to do :goodvibes

That is a tough one Jeanette, like everyone else says, if you can afford to do it then go for it. Good luck with your decision :)

Jeanette ~ Very hard decision to make. It's very difficult when you love your job to consider leaving it. If the hours suit you perhaps you could stay for a while and see what happens whilst looking for something else :grouphug:

Shame that it has to come to this. Hopefully the reduction in staff will not affect the ratio and quality for the kids.
Hope you make the right choice :goodvibes

You could always cut your hours down for the time being and then look for another job without feeling too pressured. This way you may find a better job but in your own time.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

I'm a teacher in a Primary school and I went from full time to part time in September (not my choice - due to a drop in intake at my school). Yes, it was hard financially at first, but you soon get used to managing with less money. I had the benefit of going to a job I loved in the morning and then being able to spend time with my DS in the afternoon and be able to take him to Nursery school when he started in November.

As you have said you are doing a job you love, you will have two days less travelling as regards diesel costs and you can still be looking for full time positions if thats what you decide to do.

Good luck, whatever you decide, it's a shame you have been put in this position.
Sara. :)

thanks for all your replies everyone, I have been weighing up the pros and cons all weekend.

Alll the best with your discision.

I worked as a Special Needs lsa in a main stream school till last October & know first hand how poor the wages are.

That's a toughy um not advice I'm afraid just a

I think search your heart and do what is right for you. Good luck.

that's a tough one Jeanette. I know how much you love your job. Wishing you luck with your decision. xxx :wizard:

I'd try the lesser hours and see how you manage financially. If you need to add to the hours you could also look for another position and If you do not you'll have a better work life balance. I work 3 days per week and think it's the best of both worlds. Hope it works out for you :goodvibes
